சேலம்: தெற்கு ரயில்வேயில், சிறந்த ரயில்வே கோட்டமாக, மூன்று முறை விருது பெற்ற சேலம் ரயில்வே கோட்டத்தில், அடிப்படை வசதிகளை முழுமையாக செய்து தர வேண்டும் என, பயணிகளிடையே எதிர்பார்ப்பு ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது.கடந்த, 2007ம் ஆண்டு, சேலத்தில் தனி ரயில்வே கோட்டம் உருவானது. தனி அறையில் துவங்கிய அலுவலகம், தற்போது, பல கோடி ரூபாய் மதிப்பிலான கட்டிடத்தில் இயங்கி வருகிறது. சேலம் கோட்டத்தில், சரக்கு போக்குவரத்தின் மூலம், ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும், நிர்ணயிக்கப்பட்ட இலக்கை விட, அதிக வருவாய் ஈட்டப்பட்டு வருகிறது.தற்போது, 500 கோடி ரூபாய்க்கு மேல் வருவாய் ஈட்டப்பட்டு வருகிறது. மேலும், சிக்னல் உள்ளிட்ட பிற கோளாறுகள், ஆளில்லாத லெவல் கிராஸிங் விபத்துக்குள் ஆகியவையும் குறைவாக நடக்கிறது.தெற்கு ரயில்வேயில், சென்னை, மதுரை, திருச்சி, சேலம், திருவனந்தபுரம், பாலக்காடு ஆகிய, ஆறு கோட்டங்கள் செயல்பட்டு வருகிறது. கோட்ட அளவில், வருவாய் உள்ளிட்ட பல்வேறு செயல்பாடுகளின் அடிப்படையில், 2010, 2011, 2012 ஆகிய மூன்று ஆண்டு, தொடர்ந்து விருது பெற்று, சேலம் ரயில்வே கோட்டம் அசத்தியது.இருப்பினும், சேலம் ஜங்ஷன் ரயில் நிலையத்தில், பயணிகளுக்கு தேவையான அடிப்படை வசதி முறையாக செய்யப்படவில்லை. உடைந்தும், சுழலும் தன்மையும் இழந்த மின்விசிறி, காற்று மட்டுமே வரும் குடிநீர் பைப் போன்றவற்றால், பயணிகள் கடும் பாதிப்புக்குள்ளாகியுள்ளனர்.சேலம் கோட்டத்துக்குட்பட்ட, பல்வேறு முக்கிய ரயில் நிலையங்களில், பயணிகளுக்கான நிழற்குடை, கழிப்பிட வசதி, டிக்கெட் கவுன்டர் போன்ற வசதி அமைக்கப்படவில்லை.அதே போல, டிக்கெட் பரிசோதகர் உள்ளிட்ட முக்கிய பொறுப்புகளில், சொற்ப அளவிலான ஊழியர் மட்டுமே பணியாற்றி வருவதால், பல பணிகளில் முடக்கம் ஏற்படும் சூழல் உருவாகியுள்ளது.தெற்கு ரயில்வேயில், அசத்தி வரும் சேலம் ரயில்வே கோட்டத்துக்கு, விருது வழங்கி கவுரவிக்கும் ரயில்வே நிர்வாகம், பயணிகளின் அடிப்படை வசதிகளை பூர்த்தி செய்ய தேவையான நடவடிக்கைகளையும் எடுக்க வேண்டும் என, பல்வேறு தரப்பினர் இடையே எதிர்பார்ப்பு ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது.

Survey of the Dimapur-Zubza rail link that will connect to state capital Kohima has been completed, according to a transport department source. Re-survey of the revised route from Dhansiripar (Assam) to Chumukedima (Nagaland) will be undertaken from May 2013, informed the source.The Transport Department is the nodal agency to co-ordinate and liaise with the Ministry of Railways, Government of India, pertaining to railway matters. A rail link through the foot hills of the state from Dimapur to Tizit via Tuli has been approved by the Government of India during 2012-2013. The Ministry of Railways had made a token sanction of Rs. 100 lakh to the Department to start off the survey process, the source said.

The North-east Frontier Railway (NFR) has decided to add an extra general second class coach permanently to Train No 15902/15901 Dibrugarh- Yeshwantpur- Dibrugarh express, at Dibrugarah end from July 19 and Yeshwatpur end from July 22. The revised composition of the weekly express will have 22 coaches, comprising one AC 2-tier, two AC 3-tier, 13 second class sleeper, three general second class, one general second class-cum-luggage-cum-brake van, one general second class luggage-cum-disabled coach and a pantry car, stated a release.

NAGPUR: In another blow to the railways, eight coaches and the engine of the Gondia-Wadsa passenger derailed near Wadegaon on Sunday at 9.35pm. As the mishap site falls in Naxal-affectedGadchiroli district, sabotage cannot be ruled out. South East Central Railway divisional commercial manager SK Kshetrapal said the mishap took place when the passenger train had just left Wadegaon station and was 4km away from Wadsa. "There are no reports of any injuries or casualties," he said Kshetrapal. DRM SK Verma along with senior officials have rushed to the spot.

Normal life in the Palampur region remained paralysed for the second day today following heavy rain in different parts of the region. The Pathankot-Joginder Nagar train service, which is considered the lifeline of the Kangra valley, remained suspended for the third day today as the 34m rail track, near the Kopalahar railway station, was washed away in the rain. Trains leaving Pathankot for Palampur and Joginder Nagar remained stranded at the Kopalahar railway station.A senior engineer of the Northern Railway said on phone that retaining walls of the rail track at many points had developed cracks. It could take time to repair these and restore the train services to the Kangra valley. He said because of heavy rain, loose soil had come on the track, making it difficult for them to remove it. However, train services between the Pathankot and Kopalahar railway station had been restored today, he added.

At Deol village of Baijnath subdivision, heavy landslides had posed a serious threat to over 10 residential houses. Reports here said following a blockade of a culvert, flood water entered the village and damaged houses. Most of the residents of this village had to spend a night in the open in heavy rain.

The Baijnath SDM visited the village this morning and reviewed the situation. He said necessary assistance from the government would be provided to the affected villagers.

In another incident, in the absence of proper drainage on the Pathankot-Mandi national highway, rainwater entered several shops and houses in Paprola town. The Beopar Mandal blamed the NH authorities for their failure to maintain the highway.

Reports said Devgarh village of the adjoining Mandi district also suffered extensive damage because of a cloudburst last night. Over 20 families of the village spent the whole night on a hilltop to save themselves from the flooded rivulet passing through the village. A bridge on the Bazgar Khud near Chauntra was also damaged by a flashflood. Besides, two small culverts at Devgarh village were also washed away.
