In the absence of any boundary wall on the railway station premises and ample space, the station has become a safe haven for stray dogs. The stray dogs can be seen roaming on the station premises.During a visit to the railway station, a number of stray dogs were seen roaming on the platform. Some of the dogs were seen sleeping inside the offices at the railway station. Tables of officials at various offices seem the favourite place of dogs for sleeping.The dogs were also spotted under the benches installed for passengers on various platforms. Though no passenger or visitor at platforms complained against stray dogs, a vendor said a dog tried to bite a girl last Sunday at platform No 1.“With the increase in the number of dogs at the railway station, we can see them roaming everywhere. The government should control the population of dogs in the state. The railway authorities are helpless in keeping the dogs away from the station as they can enter the station through railway tracks,” said Sukhdev, a Railway employee.The stray dogs are also seen sleeping inside cloak room, goods godown and parcel office in the railway station.A worker of the railway station said: “It is too hot outside and the dogs find the surfaces of offices and platforms comfortable. However, no case of dog bite has been reported yet".

The ‘Science Express- Biodiversity Special’ (SEBS), an innovative mobile exhibition mounted on a specially-designed 16-coach AC train which has been on the move since April, will chug into the state on August 12. A unique collaborative initiative by the Ministry of Environment & Forests, Department of Science & Technology and Indian Railways, the Science Express has contributed largely in creating awareness among the public on the rich biodiversity found in different geographical belts on the Indian sub-continent. Railway officials say the initiative gained prominence with the United Nations declaring the 2011-20 decade as the UN Decade on Biodiversity and UN Decade for Deserts and Fight against Desertification. “Eight coaches focus exclusively on exhibiting myriad biodiversity across the bio-geographical zones of the country through a variety of interactive exhibits, short films and videos displayed on plasma and LED TV screens, large format displays, kiosks and backlit panels,” a railway release has said.

हिसार : हांसी से रोहतक रेलवे लाइन के निर्माण से प्रदेश को रेल का एक नया ट्रैक मिल जाएगा। इसी तर्ज पर यदि हांसी से जींद के बीच करीब 30 किलोमीटर रेलवे लाइन का निर्माण कर दिया जाए तो न केवल दिल्ली, अंबाला व बीकानेर मंडल एकता के सूत्र में बंध जाएंगे, बल्कि रेल से हिसार से जींद के बीच की करीब 290 किलोमीटर की दूरी घटकर 80 किलोमीटर में सिमट जाएगी। इससे जींद से हिसार, भिवानी तथा हिसार से कैथल, पानीपत व सोनीपत के साथ सीधे एक दूसरे के साथ जुड़ जाएंगे। सांसद दीपेंद्र हुडडा द्वारा गत दिनों अगले बजट में यह मामला उठाए जाने की बात कहने से उम्मीदों को बल मिला है। संभावना जताई जा रही हैकि रविवार को हांसी में केंद्रीय रेल मंत्री के सामने इस मुद्दे को उठाया जा सकता है।
जींद से हिसार की दूरी करीब 90 किलोमीटर है। हिसार से जींद जानेवाली ट्रेन वाया पंजाब होते हुए प्रतिदिन करीब 290 किलोमीटर का सफर तय करती है। इतना ही नहीं जींद से भिवानी के लिए भी कोई सीधी रेल सेवा नहीं है। हांसी से जींद के बीच करीब 30 किलोमीटर रेल लाइन का निर्माण होने से रेलवे द्वारा हिसार से जींद के बीच प्रतिदिन तय की जाने वाली दूरी 290 किलोमीटर से घटकर करीब 80 से 90 किलोमीटर रह जाएगी। विशेषज्ञों के अनुसार हिसार से जींद का सफल तय करने के लिए ट्रेन में प्रतिवर्ष करीब 16 करोड़ रुपये का तेल खर्च होता है, जबकि इस मार्ग के निर्माण की लागत करीब 38 करोड़ रुपये है। यानी रेलवे लाइन के निर्माण पर खर्च होने वाली आधी राशि प्रतिवर्ष तेल पर खर्च कर दी जाती है। इससे रेलवे के मामलों में फिलहाल दो हिस्सों में बंटा प्रदेश एकता के सूत्र में बंध जाऐगा। फिलहाल ट्रेन द्वारा हिसार से पानीपत आना-जाना वाया भिवानी, रोहतक से होता है। इसके बाद हिसार से पानीपत, सोनीपत व भिवानी से कुरूक्षेत्र-कैथल का सीधा आवागमन हो जाएगा।

दिल्ली मेट्रो थाना पुलिस ने चलती मेट्रो और भीड़ वाली जगहों पर लोगों की जेब काटने वाले चार जेबतराशों को गिरफ्तार किया है। आरोपियों में रोहिणी निवासी एक महिला भी शामिल है।
जेबतराशों के नाम बबीता, मोती ठाकुर, रवि और वसीम है। अपराध शाखा के अतिरिक्त पुलिस आयुक्त रविन्द्र यादव के मुताबिक, मेट्रो में स्पेशल चेकिंग के दौरान पुलिस ने कालकाजी मंदिर मेट्रो स्टेशन से बबीता को चोरी के पर्स के साथ गिरफ्तार किया।
वहीं मोती ठाकुर को राजीव चौक से मोबाइल चुराते रंगे हाथों दबोचा गया। जबकि रवि और वसीम को जेबतराशी मामले में मेट्रो के भीतर से दबोच लिया गया। रवि के खिलाफ पहले से छह मामले दर्ज हैं।

MUMBAI: The Central Railway (CR) will operate megablock on Sunday. A block will be conducted for fast trains towards Chhatrapathi Shivaji Terminus (CST) between Mulund and Matunga from 11.00 am to 3.30 pm. Fast trains from Thane to CST will be diverted on to the slow lines between Mulund and Matunga from 11.21 am to 3.25 pm and services leaving Thane from 11.21 a.m. to 3.25 p.m. All fast trains from CST will halt at Ghatkopar, Vikhroli, Bhandup and Mulund stations from 11.15 am to 2.51 pm. Trains will not operate between Kurla and Mankhurd on the Harbour Line from 11.00 am to 3.00 pm. Trains from CST to Panvel, Belapur and Vashi will be suspended form 10.23 am to 3.01 pm. However, Special trains will be run from CST to Kurla, Mankhurd and Panvel sections during the block period. In addition to above, eight special local trains will run between Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and Panvel via Main Line and Trans Harbour Line. Western Railway will have no block on Sunday.

Chairman of BJP’s National Committee on Legal Affairs and former city MP Satya Pal Jain today demanded that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) should question Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel in connection with railway bribery scam.While addressing a press conference here, Jain said that in the telephone conversations between accused in the railway bribery scam, which are part of the CBI’s chargesheet, names of Rahul Gandhi and Ahmed Patel had come up on a number of occasions.“It is not only Rahul Gandhi or Ahmed Patel, but CBI should question all those persons whose names have come up during these conversations,” he stated.Jain also maintained that these conversations were enough for the CBI to include former railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal’s name in the list of accused, but it preferred to include his name in the witnesses’ list.

Jain said the CBI should re-investigate the matter and file a supplementary chargesheet in this case. Jain also raised questions as to why the CBI did not put Bansal’s nephew Vijay Singla’s phone under surveillance.

HOWRAH: The man accused of molesting and robbing a 26-year-old techie in a ladies compartment of the Delhi-Howrah Janata Express last Sunday was arrested from Uttarpara railway station in Hooghly on Friday evening. He was produced in court on Saturday and remanded in police custody for seven days.

However, contrary to the woman's account, the accused — identified as Deb Shankar Sau, 38 — told police that he had boarded the compartment to rob the woman and didn't attempt to molest her. Sau has a criminal background and was out on bail in connection with a dacoity he had carried out last year.

Sau's family, however, claimed that he was falsely implicated in this case. They alleged that Sau was caught in a ladies compartment of a local train at Srirampur on Thursday and asked to pay a fine. As he didn't have the money, his mobile phone was confiscated and he was stamped on his arm. When he returned with the fine to recover his mobile phone at the Seoraphuli GRP on Friday, he was arrested. But the GRP stuck to its stand. They said Sau could be nabbed because of the accurate sketch drawn by the artist and constant vigil by officers. Probe revealed that the accused who owns and operates a mechanized rickshaw van probably saw his sketch being circulated and tried to change his appearance. He cropped his hair, trimmed his moustache and even trimmed his eyebrows. "The victim had stated that the man — clad in a lungi and half-sleeved shirt — had boarded the compartment from Bandel. Sau, however, said that he boarded the train at Srirampur after spotting the woman travelling alone in the compartment. He said he thought that he intended to rob the woman and didn't try to molest or assault her. He tried to snatch her mobile phone. This was when the woman screamed and jumped out of the emergency window. He apparently got nervous thinking that the woman may have died and picked up her mobile phone and jumped off the train between Belur and Liluah," a GRP officer said.

"The GRP wasn't sitting idle. A team comprising Dinabandhu Sasmal, OC, Belur GRP, Ashok Dutta, OC, Howrah GRP, Uttam Ghosh, OC, Sheoraphuli GRP and Amalendu Biswas, OC, Bandel GRP was formed. Court inspector Azizul Haque coordinated the efforts. Debashis Mukherjee, a Howrah-based artist, prepared a sketch of the accused. This sketch was released to the media on Thursday," the officer added.

Meanwhile, Sau reportedly changed his looks after seeing his sketch. On Friday evening, the accused went to Uttarpara station to board a train when he was nabbed him.

Sau has a criminal background. In 2012, he was arrested on charges of committing a dacoity in Singur and was out on bail. He also operated as a snatcher on trains and looted scrap material from factories. Sau was charged under Section 354 (molestation) and Section 392 (robbery). "The accused has already confessed that he had planned to rob the woman," said Milan Kanta Das, SRP, Howrah.

The GRP plans to hold a test identification parade for the victim to identify the accused.
