Investigators said that Francisco Jose Garzon, the train driver, received a call from the staff of the rail company Renfe to discuss the route he needed to follow, Xinhua reported Tuesday.
The court made the ruling after analysing the train's data recorders, which register speed, distances and other data. The train was running at 192 km per hour in a curve with speed limit of 80 km.

In a setback to Udhampur-Katra rail link project, the work on the 25-km-long stretch has been slowed down after the unrest in Jammu and Kashmir over the BSF firing incident at Ramban.

The Katra line was expected to be operational by the end of August as work was going on full throttle. But now it is further delayed and likely to be commissioned in October this year. “The workforce involved in laying the tracks between Udhampur and Katra, part of the Kashmir rail link project, had fled after the turmoil in the state due to the firing incident and it has affected the progress of the ongoing work,” a senior Northern Railway official involved in the project said. He said majority of the skilled workforce were from outside of the state including Jharkhand, West Bengal and Bihar. Though the work has been resumed in the section, the pace is slow as all the workers have not yet returned, the official said. The ballast-less track is being laid on the Udhampur-Katra section which involves about 11 km of tunnelling, nine major bridges, 29 minor bridges and 10 rail bridges. Trial run will be conducted on the route after the completion of laying the track and the Commissioner Railway Safety will inspect the line before giving the clearance. We are trying to make the line operational before the commencement of Navaratri, official said. All the tunnelling as well as bridge works have been completed. PTI

Based on feedback from commuters, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has decided to introduce certain changes on the Airport Metro line, which include increasing the operating time and frequency of trains from August 1.
The announcement, made on Tuesday, came close to two months after the Reliance Infra-led DAMEPL (Delhi Airport Metro Express Private Limited), pulled out of the line and handed over operations to the DMRC on July 1. Immediately after DMRC’s takeover, feedback registers had been placed at stations. DMRC officials said the speed of the trains will also be increased from the current 70 kmph to 80 kmph. Senior officials said trains will now start an hour earlier at 4.30 am from the New Delhi station and 5:15 am at Dwarka Sector-21.
“The last train will, however, continue to depart from New Delhi at 11.30 pm and from Dwarka Sector 21 at 11.15 pm,” the official said. Officials said the change was being brought about to benefit passengers of trains such as Shatabdi Express, which depart from New Delhi railway station early in the morning and return late at night from their respective destinations.
“Now, people at the Airport or nearby areas, who want to take the Shatabdi Express, will be able to avail of the early morning service of the Airport link tog get to New Delhi railway station. Similarly, the passengers who arrive at New Delhi late at night and want to head to the airport will be able to take the last Airport.

DMRC has also decided to increase the frequency of trains during peak hours from 15 minutes to 10 minutes and 30 seconds. “Daily trips will increase from 146 to 180. The peak hours in the morning are from 7.30 am to 12 noon, while in the evening they between 3 and 7.30 pm. The peak hours have been decided keeping in view the timings of the arrival and departure of flights at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (Terminal 3). During non-peak hours, the frequency will remain at 15 minutes,” an official said.
The increase in frequency of trains will be the result of decreasing the “headway time”, which is the amount of time between two trains running on a line. “At the moment, it is 15 minutes. There are four trains running on the Airport Metro, with one on standby at the depot,” an official said.

भारत के पूर्वोत्तर इलाके में ब्रहृमपुत्र नद पर देश का सबसे लंबा रेलवे पुल बनाया जा रहा है. दरअसल, असम के डिब्रूगढ़ जिले में असम और अरुणाचल प्रदेश की सीमा पर तकरीबन 5 किमी लंबा यह रेल-सह-सड़क पुल बनाया जा रहा है. भारत सरकार ने वर्ष 1997-98 में इस पुल के निर्माण की मंजूरी दे दी थी, लेकिन 21 अप्रैल, 2002 को तत्कालीन प्रधानमंत्री अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी द्वारा इसके शिलान्यास के पश्चात ही इसका कार्य आरंभ हुआ था.

शुरुआत में इसके निर्माण की गति धीमी रही, लेकिन 2007 में राष्ट्रीय महत्व की परियोजना का दर्जा दिये जाने के बाद इसके निर्माण कार्य में तेजी आयी. इसकी लागत का 75 फीसदी रकम वित्त मंत्रलय और शेष रकम रेल मंत्रलय मुहैया करायेगी. इस पुल की लागत शुरुआत में 1,767 करोड़ रुपये बतायी गयी थी, जिसके संभवत: 2015 में निर्माण कार्य संपन्न होने तक चार हजार करोड़ रुपये पहुंच जाने की संभावना जतायी गयी है. इस पुल में कुल 42 पिलर बनाये गये हैं, जिन पर 125 मीटर लंबे स्टील के बने हुए स्पैन डाले जा रहे हैं. इसे पूरी तरह से स्टील और कंक्रीट के ढांचे से तैयार किया जा रहा है.

इस पुल के निचले हिस्से में रेलवे की दो लाइनें और ऊपरी हिस्से में तीन लेन की सड़क होगी. इस पुल को रेल लिंक से जोड़ने के लिए इसके दोनों तरफ रेल लाइन बिछायी जा रही है. इसमें दक्षिणी किनारे का अधिकांश रेल लिंक तैयार हो चुका है. इस पुल का प्रारंभिक निर्माण अध्ययन और विस्तृत डिजाइन का कार्य रेल इंडिया टेक्नीकल एंड इंजीनियरिंग सर्विसेज ने किया, जबकि इसका ढांचा गैमन इंडिया द्वारा तैयार किया जा रहा है.

The recent rape attempt on a girl in a local train at Mahalaxmi has once again exposed the poor security arrangements by the Railways, indicating that all proposals related to enhance security measures in the ladies coaches are lying in the cold storage. Amid much fanfare, both the Western Railway (WR) and Central Railway (CR) had announced their plans to fit CCTV cameras in ladies compartments. But one year down the line, there has been little progress in the projects. However, during mid-April this year, the WR had installed four CCTV cameras in the ladies compartment, which was at the Churchgate end of a local. Two cameras were installed facing the ladies coach, and two others were in front of the motorman’s cabin to record the activities of the motormen, trespassing etc. But, the inferior resolution of the cameras and its maintenance and security posed a huge challenge for the railway authorities. Officials from the signalling department were not satisfied with the camera’s quality due to which the trial was stalled. “Following the failure in fixing CCTV cameras in the locals on the western line, the CR didn’t opt for a trial either,” said Atul Rane, chief public relations officer, CR. Apart from this, plans to club all five ladies compartments in one row also failed owing to the lack of availability of coaches. In April 2013, Subodh Jain, then general manager of CR, had announced to bunch all women compartments together at the CST-end, initially in the second 15-car local and then gradually in all the locals. But, even this could not be achieved. “Though the plan to bunch the ladies’ compartments was announced, the coaches did not arrive as expected, and therefore, the second 15-car rake has not yet started,” added Mr Rane. The ladies compartments should mandatorily have GRP and RPF personnel between 10 pm and 6 am. However, commuters claim that they hardly see the presence of these officials.

इलाहाबाद (ब्यूरो)। उत्तर मध्य रेलवे ने वित्तीय वर्ष 2013-14 की पहली तिमाही में पिछले साल की अपेक्षा 25.47 फीसदी बढ़ोतरी दर्ज की है। सीपीआरओ संदीप माथुर के मुताबिक प्रारंभिक यात्री आय में 18.79 फीसदी बढ़ोतरी करते हुए 328.55 करोड़ रुपये कमाए। कोचिंग आय में 40.94 फीसदी की बढ़ोत्तरी हुई है। मालभाड़ा आय में 45.54 फीसदी की बढ़ोतरी कर 298.73 करोड़ रुपये की आय की। स्क्रैप निस्तारण में ई-नीलामी के जरिए 20.47 करोड़ की आय के साथ 43.12 करोड़ रुपये की कमाई की है। दावा किया कि भंडार विभाग का यह कदम नीलामी प्रक्रिया को और पारदर्शी बनाने की दिशा में बड़ा प्रयास है।

वेटिंग टिकट पर ट्रेन में सफर नहीं करने के फरमान का असर आगामी राष्ट्रीय खेलों पर भी पड़ा है। इंफाल में अगस्त से शुरू होने वाली सब जूनियर नेशनल जूडो चैंपियनशिप में जम्मू-कश्मीर सहित अन्य कई राज्यों की टीमें भी भाग लेने से महरूम रह जाएंगी। जम्मू-कश्मीर जूडो एसोसिएशन को फेडरेशन से 5 जुलाई को इंफाल में 6 अगस्त से शुरू होने वाली सब जूनियर नेशनल जूडो चैंपियनशिप में भाग लेने संबंधी लिखित रूप से पत्र हासिल हुआ। स्टेट स्पो‌र्ट्स काउंसिल ने राज्य की सब जूनियर नेशनल जूडो चैंपियनशिप में भाग लेने वाली 22 सदस्यीय टीम का चयन किया। जूडो एसोसिएशन के सचिव विकास गुप्ता ने बताया कि सिलेक्शन ट्रायल की प्रक्रिया पूरी होने के बाद एसोसिएशन ने दो सप्ताह पहले टीम के लिए रेलवे की टिकट भी करवा दी, लेकिन अभी भी वेटिंग की स्थिति जस की तस बनी हुई है। ऐसी परिस्थिति में खिलाड़ी किसी भी तरह से ट्रेन में सफर नहीं कर सकते हैं। एसोसिएशन ने इस मर्तबा सब जूनियर नेशनल जूडो चैंपियनशिप में राज्य की टीम के भाग नहीं लेने का फैसला किया है। अलबत्ता दो खिलाड़ियों ने अभिभावकों के साथ चैंपियनशिप में भाग लेने का फैसला किया है जिनके आने-जाने का खर्च एसोसिएशन वहन करेगी। चैंपियनशिप में शिखा और ज्योति आदित्य भाग लेंगे। गुप्ता ने बताया कि वह जम्मू रेलवे स्टेशन के अधिकारियों से भी मिले, लेकिन उन्होंने भी रेलवे मंत्रालय के फरमान के बाद 22 में से चार खिलाड़ियों को ही जम्मू से दिल्ली तक कनफर्म टिकट देने की बात कही है। रेलवे के फैसले के बाद उक्त चैंपियनशिप में टीम को न भेजने का फैसला सही है। उन्होंने बताया कि रेलवे के फैसले का असर चैंपियनशिप पर भी पड़ेगा और इसमें अन्य राज्यों की टीमेँ भी भाग नहीं लेने के मूड में हैं।
