The weather remained overcast, the track water-logged and the standards average. No wonder, day two of the 79th Railways athletics championships was a dull affair.The fact that the first session of the day consisted mainly of decathlon events also meant that there was hardly any interest among those witnessing the action.For the record, Manikandan was the fastest man of the tournament with a timing of 10.59 seconds in the 100m. Merlyn K Joseph was the fastestwoman, setting a time of 11.84 seconds in the 100m.The inclement weather meant organisers rushed to complete as many events as possible every time there was a break in the rain.It was a sight to see the men and women competing simultaneously in the 20km walk across the track.

Poor conditions

In between, pouring rain meant the walkers had to walk around and splash through puddles of water on the track — which legendary runner Bahadur Prasad said was a tell-tale sign of the track being laid incorrectly.After a point, most athletes appeared resigned to performing in constant rain but were clearly more concerned about their safety than a good performance.

“What bad conditions to compete in, but what can we do. I have to run tomorrow also but it’s just ok, most of us are simply performing for participation. How can anyone be motivated to give their best,” said Preeja Sreedharan, the National record holder and women’s 10,000m winner.

The hammer throw, javelin throw and shot put events were shifted out to the warm-up area and the long jump and triple jump events delayed because of the rains.

Officials professed helplessness but the fact remains that the weather at this time of the year is always expected to be a wet in the city.

With this, over an estimated 20 million commuters traveling by rail every day in India will now be able to book tickets via their Airtel mobile phones."Our integration with IRCTC for reserved ticketing is a step to empower our customers specifically beyond the urban footprint with the convenience of booking tickets without the need of holding a bank account or an Internet connection," Ramesh Menon, hub CEO (Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh), Bharti Airtel, said in a release. The service works across all mobile devices, does not involve any data or SMS charges, the release added.

Temporary Augmentation of Three Special Trains with Additional Sleeper Class Coaches to Clear Extra Rush / Waitlisted Passengers

South Central Railway has temporarily augmented the following three Special trains with additional Sleeper class coaches to clear the extra rush / waitlisted passengers as per the details mentioned below:-

1.Tr.No. 07101 Lingampalli-Kakinada Town Special Train will be temporarily augmented with two additional Sleeper coaches Ex. Lingampalli o­n 8th, 14th & 18th August, 2013.
2.Tr.No. 07102 Kakinada Town-Lingampalli Special Train will be temporarily augmented with two additional Sleeper coaches Ex. Kakinada Town o­n 11th, 14th & 18thAugust, 2013.
3.Tr.No. 07202 Secunderabad-Kakinada Town Special Train will be temporarily augmented with two additional Sleeper coaches Ex. Lingampalli o­n 11th August, 2013.

These 6 additional coaches will make available 432 berths per service.

घटना सोमवार की दोपहर की है। तालापारा निवासी अख्तर खान (22) अपने साथी पवन मेश्राम के साथ उसलापुर गया था। वह उसलापुर स्टेशन से लौटते समय बाइक को बंद फाटक वाले स्थान से उस पार (सकरी की ओर) ले जाने लगा। वहां मौजूद लोगों ने दोनों को समझाइश दी कि ट्रेन आ रही है, रिस्क मत लो रोड ओवरब्रिज से उस पार पहुंच जाओ। दोनों ने लोगों की एक न सूनी। फाटक बंद करने के लिए लगाए गए पोल के बीच से बाइक को पटरी तक ले गए। इधर डाउन लाइन पर दुर्ग-नौतनवा (18202) गोरखपुर एक्सप्रेस धड़धड़ाते आ रही थी। ड्राइवर ने लगातार हार्न बजाया कि बाइक सवार पटरी से बाहर हो जाएं। मौके पर मौजूद लोगों ने बताया कि बाइक सवार नशे में लग रहे थे, जिसके कारण उन्होंने ट्रेन के हार्न को भी अनसुना कर दिया। आखिरकार बाइक ट्रेन की चपेट में आ गई। बाइक 50 मीटर तक घिसटते हुए गई, जिससे चकनाचूर हो गई। दोनों बाइक सवार भी ट्रेन की चपेट में आए। अख्तर खान के दोनों पैर फैक्चर हो गए, वहीं शरीर के दूसरे हिस्से में भी गंभीर चोट आई। इसी तरह पवन भी गंभीर रूप से घायल हो गया। दोनों को उपचार के लिए सिम्स में भर्ती कराया गया है। इधर आरपीएफ ने चकनाचूर बाइक क्रमांक सीजी 10 एफबी 5280 को जब्त कर लिया है, वहीं बाइक सवारों के खिलाफ रेलवे की धारा 154 एवं 174 के तहत अपराध दर्ज किया है।

For the convenience of the rail passengers, Northern Railway has decided to extend the train No. 14732/14731 Delhi Jn.- Bhatinda- Delhi Jn. Daily Intercity Express upto Fazilka from 09.08.2013 from both the directions as per the under mentioned programme:

        The 14732 Delhi Jn.- Fazilka Daily Intercity Express Train will depart from Delhi Sarai Rohilla at 02.15 p.m. to reach Fazilka at 01.05 a.m. the next day. In the return direction, the 14731 Fazilka- Delhi Jn. Daily Intercity Express Train will depart from Fazilka at 02.00 a.m. to reach Delhi Jn. at 12.45 p .m. the same day.

The 14732/14731 Delhi Jn.- Bhatinda- Delhi Jn. Daily Intercity Express Train will stop at Goniana, Gangsar Jaito, Kot Kapura, Bariwala, Muktsar and Lakhewali stations enroute in both the directions o­n extended portion.

Changing of timing Jodhpur-Rewari passenger train.

Members of the Mysore Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Wayanad Chamber of Commerce have constituted a Mysore–Wayanad Joint Railway Connectivity Committee for seeking rail link between the two regions. At a meeting held here on Tuesday, MCCI president Sudhakar Shetty said if the railway line was approved, it would boost industrialisation, trade, tourism, and commerce. A.S. Satish, vice-president of MCCI; M.C. Bhansali, secretary; Shreeshaila Ramannavar, member, Ashok, vice-president, Travel Agents Association, and members of Wayanad Chamber of Commerce were present.

Chandigarh/Ferozepur : Sher Singh Ghubaya, Member Parliament would flag off two new Intercity Express between Ferozepur-Delhi and Fazilka-Delhi on August 9.

The two new trains introduced, with the sincere efforts of Sher Singh Ghubaya, are Train No.14626 and 14625 between Ferozepur-Delhi and Fazilka –Delhi, which were planned in the Rail Budget.

Giving this inforamtion, Makhan Singh, Member SSS Board, Punjab Government said, “The Intercity Express from Ferozepur would start on daily basis, at 4.30 AM and reach Delhi at 11.40 AM by covering 382 KMs journey via Faridkot, Kotkapura, Bhatinda, Jakhal, Narvana, Jind, Rohtak and the last station in Delhi would Saria Rohila.  On return, this train will start at 7 AM covering the same return route would reach at Ferozepru at 2.45 PM”.

Similarly, the Intercity Express between Fazilka-Delhi, Train No.14732 and 14731) would start on daily basis at 2 AM and reach New Delhi at 12.45 PM,  via Lakhowali, Sri Mukatsar Sahib, Bariwala, Kotkapura, Gangsar Jaito, Bahtinda, Dhuri, Rajpura, Ambala, Panipat. On return, it will start at 1.45 AM through the same return route and reach Fazilka at 1.05 PM.
