New Delhi, Aug 8: To clear extra rush on the occasion of Eid festival, Northern Railway will run special trains between Banihal and Baramulla for three days from Friday.  Special trains will be pressed into service between Baramulla and Banihal from Friday to facilitate passengers traveling during the festive period, said a senior Northern Railway official.  The Banihal-Qazigund section, part of the Kashmir rail link project, was recently commissioned with much fanfare in the presence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.  The special train service will be available for three days from August 9 to 11 in the section. The Special train will start operation from Budgam at 6.10 AM to arrive Banihal at 7.50 AM the same day. In return the train will leave Banihal at 8 AM to reach at 9.43 AM.  Another train will depart from Baramulla at 2.10 PM to arrive Banihal at 5.55 PM. Similarly, more trains will run in the section during the day including the last special train will depart from Banihal at 6 PM to arrive at Budgam at 8.10 PM.

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh Thursday said target has been set to complete the under construction Jiribam-Tupul-Imphal railway line by 2017 even if the earlier stipulated time fails to fulfill it.Ibobi was attending the closing ceremony of golden jubilee celebration of Thoubal College in Thoubal district.Focusing on the Look East Policy and a trail of developmental projects to be followed it in the state, Ibobi said the Government has set the target to finish the Jiribam-Tupul-Imphal rail line construction by 2017 even if the stipulated time fails to fulfill it.The Chief Minister also said the Imphal Airport will be upgraded to an international airport status soon and then added that the Imphal-Moreh road will also be developed at the cost of Rs 1, 800 crore to be solely funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB).Earlier, the Chief Minister unveiled a memorial stone erected in connection with the celebration at the Thoubal College campus.He later inaugurated an indoor stadium at the college campus.Ibobi also paid floral tribute to the founding members of the institute.The week-long golden jubilee celebration of Thoubal College, which was set up in the year 1963 as the first college of the district, began August 1. Kh Meghachndra, Parliamentary Secretary, MLAs K Ranjit, P Brojen, and P Vaiphei, Commissioner, Higher and Technical Education, T Ranjit, Deputy Commissioner, Thoubal district, Dr RK Yaiskul, Additional Director, University and Higher Education, and O Chaoba Devi, Principal, Thoubal College were also present at the occasion.

Railways have decided to run 4 special trains between Mumbai and Velankanni to clear the extra rush of passengers during Velankanni Festival. The details of service as under –

A) CHHATRAPATI SHIVAJI TERMINUS – VELANKANNI- CHHATRAPATI SHIVAJI TERMINUS SPECIAL

01029 special train will leave Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus at 11.30 hrs o­n 26.8.2013 (Monday) and will arrive Velankanni at 19.15 hrs next day.

01030 special train will leave Velankanni at 13.35 hrs o­n 28.8.2013 (Wednesday) and will arrive Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus at 23.40 hrs next day.

HALTS: Dadar, Thane, Kalyan, Lonavla, Pune, Solapur, Gulbarga, Wadi, Raichur, Guntakal, Gooty, Kadapa, Renigunta, Puttur, Tiruttani, Katpadi, Vellore, Arni Road, Tiruvannamalai, Tirukkovilur, Villupuram, Cuddalore Port, Chidambaram, Sirkazhi, Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam.

01032 special train will leave Velankanni at 13.35 hrs o­n 29.8.2013 (Thursday) and will arrive Lokmanya Tilak Terminus at 23.45 hrs next day.

Seventy per cent of children at Jaipur Railway Station did not have any access to police officials they could trust for protection. In fact, the Railway Police Force was implicated in numerous types of abuse and maltreatment of children including physical abuse, sexual abuse of girls and boys, incarcerating children on false accusations and exploitation for drugs and money.This was revealed in a study by Harvard School of Public Health in collaboration with the Public Health Foundation of India and FXB India Suraksha. The comprehensive study — developed on the SAFE Child Protection model developed by Theresa Betancourt, director of the Research Programme on Children and Global Adversity at Harvard University —was conducted on 49 children between the ages of 8-17 years, living and working on railway station.While trying to understand the safety conditions of these children, the study also revealed that the older children bullied, physically abused and sexually abused the younger children; girls who were orphans or without any caretakers were especially vulnerable.More than three-fourths of the children admitted to using drugs on a regular basis. Children as young as eight were severely addicted and spent most of their days high on whitener solutions. Two out of five children did not have access to health care services.Dr Aruna Bhattacharya of Indian Institute of Public Health said, “The thrust behind the study at Jaipur is to give every child a better future for their fullest physical, psychological, social, cognitive and cultural development.”

South Eastern Railway conducted a special ticket checking drive at Panskura, Mecheda, Deulti, Bagnan, Uluberia, Dasnagar and Tikiapara of Kharagpur Division from 10th July to 16th July and again from 27th July to 3rd August, 2013.
During this massive ticket checking drive in the suburban section of SER , 804 passengers were detected travelling either without ticket or with irregular tickets and an amount of Rs.2.94 lakhs (Rupees Two lakhs ninety four thousand) was realised from them as fine.
During the period, 2009 unbooked luggage cases were also detected by the officers and staff of Commercial Department along with RPF Personnel and an amount of Rs.1.18 lakhs (Rupees One lakh eighteen thousand) was collected as fine.
The ticket checking drive is still continuing for curbing ticketless travel.

Manish Tewari writes to Rail minister for completion of foot-bridge at Ludhiana railway station
LUDHIANA: The Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mr.Manish Tiwari has written to the Railway Minister Mr.Malikarjun Kharge seeking his personal intervention about the completion of the foot-bridge at the Ludhiana railway station.

In his letter Tewari wrote to Kharge that the work had been started on the foot-bridge at his initiative a few years ago. However, midway the railways stopped the work for unexplained reasons.

Seeking enquiry into the abandoning of work on the foot-bridge, he said, “the matter may kindly be got enquired as why the foot over bride had to be abandoned and how much money was spent on it before being abandoned”. He asked as why was the project cancelled and whether any penalty has been fixed and what action had been taken in this regard.

Emphasizing the need for early completion of the foot-bridge, Tewari pointed out, “Ludhiana is one of the important cities in Punjab with a lot of railway traffic”. The new foot-bridge is urgently needed as the existing one is quite narrow, he added.

The work of the foot over-bridge has been hanging fire for a past long time and this bridge could provide a lot of relief to the residents who have to manage through the narrow bridge that exists presently.

`South Central Railway will extend Train No.77676/77677 Miryalguda-Nadikudi DEMU Passenger to Pidugurala.

Accordingly, Train No.77676 Miryalguda-Nadikudi DEMU Passenger will be extended upto Piduguralla with effect from 16th August 2013. This train will depart Miryalguda at the existing time i.e. 23 00 hrs and arrive Piduguralla at 00 15 hrs o­n the next day.

In the return direction, Train No. 77677 Piduguralla-Miryalguda DEMU Passengerwill depart Piduguralla at 04 15 hrs o­n 17th August 2013 and arrive Miryalguda at its existing time i.e. 05 30 hrs o­n the same day.

On the extended portion, this train will stop at Tummalacheruvu station.

Chandigarh:
The Punjab Government has approved the construction of three new road over-bridges (ROBs). Work on these bridges would start in October this year.Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Minister for Public Works, said the ROBs would be constructed at a cost of Rs 94.18 crore. These would be built in the Malwa region in Malerkotla on the Raikot road, Gobindgarh and the northern bypass in Patiala.
