CBTC system will help keeping waiting period between two metro trains at just 90 seconds, this is the shortest waiting time in the world. Other Metro projects in India have a minimum waiting period of 180 seconds between two trains. MEGA will have an average speed of 40 km per hour, and will have a top speed of 110 kmph. Coming up at a total cost of INR 19,0000 crores, Gandhinagar-Ahmedabad Metro link will adopt driverless technology in the country due to a fully computerized CBTC system. This not only quickens the journey but also ensures total safety while time spent waiting for the next train is at its minimum. The question of human error, a major cause of accidents, is also negated due to the use of driverless trains.Another notable fact where MEGA is concerned is that these are broad gauge tracks on which the Metro will run. Each bogey will have a capacity of 400 passengers as against a limit of 250 passengers seen in other trains which means that a four bogey Metro will be able to carry a total of 1,600 passengers while other Metros in India carry 1,500 passengers in its six bogey trains, reports The Hindu.Existing India cities to feature metro rapid transit in India include Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi and Bangalore. Construction of metro train service is also in progress at other Indian cities. By 2020, following Indian cities will have metro services, Gurgaon, Jaipur, Chennai, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Kochi, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad Gandhinagar, Bhopal Chandigarh, Indore, Kanpur, Lucknow, Ludhiana, Nagpur, Patna, Pune, Surat, and Guwahati. |

CHENNAI: Passengers arriving at Chennai central continue to suffer as the stalemate over relocation of the prepaid autorickshaw stand continues. Autorickshaw drivers at the stand met station manager S Govindaswamy who is learnt to have said that the matter was to be resolved with railway police and traffic police. The drivers had met police on Thursday but the meeting ended without a result.Chennai metro rail, which displaced the prepaid auto stand and put up a barricade on EVRSalai (Poonamallee High Road) 16 days ago, have not offered an alternative space. More than 20 women drivers, all of them widows, continue to be jobless due to the standoff. Passengers arriving at Central are forced to walk with their luggage to the main road where auto drivers charge exorbitant fares for short distances. Southern Railway appears to have washed its hands off the issue. "Every agency is passing the buck. I have two daughters who are in college and this is my only profession. For the last several days I have been jobless," said K Senthil, an auto driver. |

We are expecting the approval in a few days and are likely to issue work orders by the month-end.”The project prepared by RITES provides for running electrified trains between Bangalore City-Mandya and Bangalore City-Bangarpet. The RITES had prepared a feasibility report for introducing electrified trains to Tumkur, Mandya, Chikballapur, Bangarpet, Doddaballapur and Hosur from the city under the commuter rail system. According to the estimate, the project is expected to cost `8,759 crore.Earlier, the state government had approached the Railways to implement the project. While they approved it, the Railways refused to fund the project as the commuter rail system implemented by them is running under loss.Later, they agreed to implement the project only if the government provides the necessary funds and seven acres of land belonging to Binny Mills to create infrastructure. The government agreed to fund the project and decided to constitute a special purpose vehicle consisting officials from the state government and Railways to implement it. The CM had recently given his approval for the project. |
