साहिबाबाद रेलवे फाटक के पास प्रस्तावित अंडरपास का काम फाइनेंशल बिड नहीं खुल पाने के कारण आगे नहीं बढ़ पा रहा है। पांच महीने से से काम अटका हुआ है। फाइनैंशल बिड नहीं खुल पाने की वजह चीफ एडमिनिस्ट्रेटिव अफसर का पद फिलहाल रिक्त रहना बताया जा रहा है। बताया जाता है कि बिड खुलने के बाद अंडरपास बनने में कम से कम दो साल का समय लगेगा।

अंडरपास बनाने के लिए फरवरी 2013 में मिट्टी के सैंपल लिए गए और उसके बाद मिट्टी की जांच का काम पूरा हो चुका है। अंडरपास निर्माण के लिए टेक्निकल बिड खुल चुकी है। अब फाइनैंशल बिड खुलनी है। रेलवे के एक अधिकारी ने नाम न छापने की शर्त पर बताया कि 5 महीने पहले चीफ एडमिनिस्ट्रेटिव अफसर धर्म सिंह रिटायर हो गए हैं। तब से यह पोस्ट खाली पड़ी हुई है। इस पोस्ट पर नियुक्ति के बाद ही फाइनैंशल बिड खुल पोगी। अंडरपास बनाने पर कुल 20 करोड़ रुपये खर्च होंगे। अंडरपास के लिए क्रॉसिंग पर 9 मीटर चौड़ाई और 4 मीटर ऊंचाई के निर्माण का प्रस्ताव रखा गया था।

हादसे रोकने के लिए बनी अंडरपास की प्लानिंग

दिल्ली-गाजियाबाद सेक्शन पर रेलवे के बढ़ते ट्रैफिक को देखते हुए करीब 12 साल पहले इस क्रॉसिंग को पूरी तरह से बंद कर दिया गया था। साहिबाबाद (जीटी रोड) और साहिबाबाद इंडिस्ट्रयल एरिया की तरफ बसी कॉलोनी के लोगों का रास्ता बंद हो गया। चूंकि यह रास्ता मोहन नगर रूट से काफी शार्ट पड़ता है। फाटक बंद होने के बावजूद टू वीलर और रेहड़ी वालों ने रास्ता बना लिया है। इससे क्रॉसिंग पर हादसे होते रहते हैं। हादसों पर रोक लग सके इसके लिए दोनों तरफ के लोगों ने अंडरपास की मांग शुरू की थी। इस पर नॉर्दर्न रेलवे ने अंडरपास बनाने पर सहमति जताई और जीडीए को पत्र लिखा था।

इलाहाबाद : ज्यादा दिन दूर नहीं जब इलाहाबाद-वाराणसी के बीच बिजली की ट्रेन दौड़ना शुरू कर देगी। रेल विद्युतीकरण संगठन इस कार्य को तेजी से पूरा करने में लगा हुआ है। अभी तक वाराणसी से इलाहाबाद जंक्शन तक खंभों में बिजली के तार खींचे जा चुके हैं। हालांकि कुछ स्थानों पर अभी थोड़ा-थोड़ा कार्य बाकी है। यह दिसंबर तक पूरा कर लिया जाएगा। सीआरएस निरीक्षण के बाद अगले वर्ष मार्च महीने तक इलेक्ट्रिक ट्रेन इस रूट पर दौड़ने लगेगी।
मुगलसराय को वाराणसी के साथ लखनऊ को जोड़ने की लगभग पूरी हो चुकी है। अब रेल विद्युतीकरण संगठन का पूरा ध्यान ऊंचाहार-वाराणसी एवं इलाहाबाद-वाराणसी परियोजना को पूरा करने पर है। इसमें ऊंचाहार से वाराणसी और फाफामऊ से इलाहाबाद जंक्शन तक खंभे लगाने एवं तार खींचे जाने का कार्य पूरा हो चुका है। कुछ स्थानों पर गड़बड़ी के कारण थोड़ा-थोड़ा कार्य बाकी है। इसे भी दिसंबर माह तक पूरा कर लिए जाने की योजना है। रेलमार्ग के अगल-बगल बिजली के तार पर आ रही पेड़ों की टहनियां काटी जा रही हैं। सूत्रों की माने तो यह कार्य दिसंबर माह तक पूरा कर लिए जाने की उम्मीद है। इसके बाद सीआरएस निरीक्षण कराया जाएगा। निरीक्षण में सबकुछ ठीक ठाक मिलने के बाद मार्च माह में इस रेल खंड को बिजली की ट्रेनों के लिए शुरू कर दिया जाएगा।

The portion of the city railway station falling on the Panchkula side is a picture of neglect. It has always got a "stepmotherly treatment" from the authorities. Although a number of proposals have been mooted by the authorities for this side, no project has seen the light of day.

Renovation of building

A proposal to construct eight rooms on the Panchkula side of the station was sanctioned. These included waiting rooms and an administrative block for accommodating the staff.As per the proposal, four rooms were to be used as waiting rooms, two each for general category and first-class commuters.In the remaining rooms, the administrative staff of the Railways, including the deputy station superintendent and ticketing staff, were to be accommodated. However, no work on the project has commenced so far.At present there is only one waiting room on the Panchkula side, in which every category of commuters is accommodated. Moreover, there is only one ticketing counter for the reservation of tickets.

Additional platform

The proposal for construction of two more yards (stabling line) was proposed by the authorities. These yards were to be used for cleaning trains after the journey. In addition to it, a platform (number 6) was to be constructed, keeping in view the increase in number of trains plying to and from the city.

Till date, however, the work has not been sanctioned by the authorities.

Lack of security

How ill-equipped the station is can be gauged from the fact that on the Panchkula side there are multiple unmanned entrances.

No scanning equipment or metal detectors have been installed at any of the entry points, except the deployment of two ill-equipped railway police force (RPF) officials for security check and to avoid any untoward incident. Officials said there were no fresh proposals for enhancing the security on that side.

He said the security arrangements would be reviewed after the renovation of the building.

"The security control of Southern Railway, located in Chennai, will receive the call and act accordingly. Most often, women call us with complaints of eve-teasing and physical harassment in running trains," a security personnel said.

When youth pushed out gutsy girl

On July 25, 2012, a 19-year-old girl was seriously injured when she was pushed out of a running train by four men, after she resisted their attempts to molest her. The horror unfolded in the Yeshwantpur-Mysore Express. She was pushed out when the train reached Maddur, and fell 25 feet below on the dry bed of the river Shimsha. She was hospitalized for several weeks.

It may be time for Railways to abandon rake sharing arrangement

What is in a name, or rather a name-board on some trains? “Plenty of confusion,” many travellers would say, because destination boards on coaches could be utterly misleading and could bring on an adrenaline rush, especially for passengers at an intermediate station where stoppage is barely a minute.While for the Railways, it is standard practice under the Rake Sharing Arrangement (RSA) to use rakes of one train that has completed its journey for another going to a completely different destination, for passengers the combined display boards can be misleading.“Displaying dual destination boards on a train can only add to a passenger’s anxiety,” said consumer activist T. Sadagopan.For instance, the Chendur express heading for Chennai leaves with the board Tiruchendur-Chennai Egmore-Mannargudi-Mayiladuthurai, though it does not go to Mayiladuthurai.In fact, this train has an RSA with the Mannai Express and the Mannargudi-Mayiladuthurai passenger too. Its first run is from Tiruchendur to Chennai Egmore from where it is operated to Mannargudi as Mannai Express and then as the Mannargudi-Mayiladuthurai passenger special.Or take the Train no 56041 passenger that starts from Tirupathy and arrives at Puducherry and immediately morphs as the Pondicherry-Egmore passenger (Train No. 56038) even while retaining a display board that says ‘Tirupathy-Puducherry-Chennai Egmore. “A layman waiting at an intermediate station could mistake it as a direct train to Chennai Egmore,” Mr. Sadagopan said.In slightly different circumstances, passengers can get confused when pairing trains are simultaneously stationed at different platforms of a station. For instance, Jagadeesh and Saravanan were at Chennai Egmore last week to board the Pallavan Express. On seeing the train on a platform being attended to by mechanics, they thought the train was being turned around for the journey.On realising that something was amiss well past departure time, they cross-checked with a station official to find that the ‘real’ Pallavan express had already left from a different platform.Railway officials say the RSA system is a pro-passenger measure, as it helps Railways run more number of services on diverse routes by optimising usage of tracks and reducing the idling time of rakes. For instance, the RSA helped operationalise over 3,800 regular express trains and close to 4,000 specials in 2012-13.According to a Southern Railway official, the RSA has helped circumvent coach shortage as a stumbling block for operating more number of services and meeting the aspirations of the travelling public.The RSA pattern where many trains are linked by the same rake has resulted in a practice where the rakes of an express train are used for a train to another destination at the platform itself. “When a rake does not go to the maintenance pit lines, boards that display names of both trains are necessary,” an official explained.However, to avoid confusion, Southern Railway is pitching for hinged belly board design where more than one train can be displayed individually and names can be changed at the platform before the next train starts. “It is expected that this new design will solve the problem to a large extent”, he said.The Research Design and Standards Organisation is also designing micro processor operated LED train indication boards. “Once the design is standardised, Railways will provide it in a phased manner,” an official said.

The famed murals of Kerala will soon adorn the Kozhikode railway station, with the pictures bringing out the city’s culture and tradition.

Five mural specialists from Sargaalaya Arts and Crafts Village are decking the upper-class waiting hall near the fourth platform and the VIP lounge near the first platform. Sargaalaya says the murals will be ready for formal unveiling on Friday.

The murals will visualise the theme “Kozhikode — historical capital of Kerala” and will project the culture and tradition of the city.

The initiative comes as part of the Community Assisted Railway Development Scheme of Southern Railway, aimed at communicating the importance of people’s participation in keeping public places clean and beautiful.

“The railway passengers are sure to get a kaleidoscopic view of the city’s culture from the work. We hope to carry this art mission to nearby stations; one such work is already complete at the Kannur station,” T.K. Rajesh, general manager, Sargaalaya, says.

The project was designed after the visit of Divisional Railway Manager Piyush Agarwal to Sargaalaya two months ago, he adds.

प्रांतीय उद्योग व्यापार मंडल और देवभूमि उद्योग व्यापार मंडल के संयुक्त नेतृत्व में आयोजित धरने के दौरान व्यापारियों ने पूर्वोत्तर रेलवे पर क्षेेत्र की उपेक्षा का आरोप लगाया। केशव कुमार पासी ने नई हावड़ा-लालकुआं रेल को रामनगर से चलाने, गूलरभोज-लालकुआं के बीच टांडा पर हॉल्ट बनाने और रात में रामनगर-लालकुंआ के लिए रेल आरंभ करने की मांग की। धरना प्रदर्शन का नेतृत्व बाजपुर के समाजसेवी केशव कुमार पासी ने किया।
