After changing the location of the ladies coach on trains running on the Violet Line, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation is now planning a similar exercise on the Mundka- Inderlok/Kirtinagar (Line-5) to facilitate boarding and alighting of women passengers. Starting Thursday, women passengers using metro trains from Inderlok/Kirti Nagar towards Mundka will find the ladies coach at the end of the train. However, those travelling the other way will continue to find the first coach reserved for women. |

Elias George, MD, Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) said that the Kochi Metro will change the way the city is being perceived by outsiders and it will prove to be a lever for reinventing the city.This will also lead to the integration of all forms of transportation in the city, which is a basic condition for the project sanction.He was addressing the KMA members on the topic ‘Make Over for Kochi City’. He pointed out that there are plans to set up two townships in the city including Muttam and Kakkanad.The next KMRL board meeting will discuss about the consultancy of the project. The consultancy will be selected based on their international reputation.The townships will have facilities for housing, trade, entertainment and employment opportunities. As part of encouraging pedestrians, footpaths will be constructed at the township.There will also be facilities for cycling and gathering of people. An idea box has been created on the website of the Kochi Metro to enable the public to post their suggestions.According to Elias George, the idea box will help in creating an idea bank of experts in this field. Though some of the Metro rails are not running on a profit, the branding of the cities will bring in more investments.There are plans to link the townships with waterways available in Kochi. The timings of Metro, water transport and buses will be linked enabling the passengers to use these mode of transports without waiting at each station. |

The Minister of Railways Shri Mallikarjun Kharge has called upon all Zonal Railways to ensure ‘Zero Tolerance to Accidents’ on Indian Railways. In his message to the General Manager of all Zonal Railways, Shri Kharge said “Safety culture is essential for any organization to achieve good safety results. With sustained efforts in the last decade, Indian Railways have reduced the number of accidents per million train kilometers from 0.44 in 2003-04 to 0.13 in 2012-13. Further effort is required to make Indian Railways free of accidents. |

Incessant rains in western Rajasthan today caused breach and inundation of rail tracks disrupting train services near Sanchor and Samdari in Barmer district. Normal life was thrown out of gear due to heavy rains in Barmer, which received 270 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours, official sources said. Sand and ballast was washed away in about 500 metres near Sanchor in Barmer at 7.30 am, North Western Railway (NWR) sources said. Two passenger trains, Barmer-Haridwar Express and Delhi-Barmer Malini Express were delayed for over three hours due to the breach, they said. Railway tracks were inundated at Samdari on the Jodhpur-Barmer route, due to which the Jodhpur-Bhildi Passenger was stopped for a couple of hours, they said. Sand and ballast were washed away from underneath the tracks at several places between Bamsin-Rakhi railway stations in Barmer district yesterday. Though services were resumed yesterday only, trains were running at slow speed along the stretch, NWR officials said. |

INDORE: On the eve of Independence Day, Railway Police Force (RPF) beefed up security at Indore and other nearby stations. Security check at parking stand, general coaches and other places with heavy footfall has been increased.Indore RPF office in-charge Mukesh Anandkar said that the dog squad has been making constant rounds of the parking lot and general coaches. On Wednesday morning, vehicles and major parcels were checked with metal detectors. Besides the CCTV scrutiny, manual photography and hand videography are also being done, especially inside general coaches."The security check will continue till Thursday afternoon. RPF personnel are also patrolling in civil clothes at various platforms. Dustbins, parcel office and parking lot are being thoroughly scrutinized," he added.Security check arrangements are being done at Rajendra Nagar, Dewas, Fatiabad and Laxmibai Nagar stations as well. |
