रांची रेलवे स्टेशन पर एस्केलेटर सीढिय़ों के चालू होने में अभी एक महीने का समय और लगेगा। एस्केलेटर लगाने का काम सात अगस्त तक पूरा करना था, लेकिन प्लानिंग में कमी और मानसून के कारण ऐसा नहीं हो पाया।
रांची स्टेशन के प्लेटफॉर्म नंबर एक और चार-पांच पर एस्केलेटर लगाया जाना है। फिलहाल प्लेटफॉर्म एक पर एस्केलेटर इंस्टॉल करने का काम चल रहा है। यह काम दिल्ली की कंपनी ऑटो मीटर कर रही है। वहीं एस्केलेटर लगाने के लिए बेस बनाने का काम घरौंदा होम्स प्राइवेट लिमिटेड पूरा कर चुकी है। प्लेटफॉर्म नंबर एक पर एस्केलेटर लगाने का काम लगभग पूरा हो चुका है। वहीं प्लेटफॉर्म नंबर चार-पांच पर सिर्फ लोहे का बेस खड़ा किया गया है। एस्केलेटर लगाने के लिए खुदाई की जा रही है। यह काम पूरा होने में करीब एक महीना लग सकता है। एस्केलेटर के ऊपर शेड भी बनाया जाना है।

बिलासपुर। डिवीजन के 10 उन छोटे रेलवे स्टेशनों के रिजर्वेशन काउंटर से अनरिजर्व टिकटें भी जारी होंगी। हर दिन समय विशेष पर जनरल टिकट कटाने वालों की भारी भीड़ होती है। यही वजह है कि काउंटरों के दोहरे उपयोग के निर्देश दिए गए हैं। यह भी तय कर दिया गया है कि किस समय कौन सी टिकट जारी होगी। नया निर्देश मंगलवार से लागू कर दिया गया।
अकलतरा, सक्ती, विश्रामपुर, बिजुरी, किरोड़ीमल नगर ये सभी स्टेशन ऐसे हैं, जहां सुबह 6 बजे से 9 बजे के बीच दो से अधिक पैसेंजर ट्रेनें गुजरती हैं। इसके चलते इस समय स्टेशन में जनरल टिकट लेने वालों की भारी भीड़ रहती है। एक काउंटर से टिकट जारी करने के चलते यात्रियों के बीच झगड़े की स्थिति बन जाती है। बिजुरी, बेलपहाड़ स्टेशन में पैसेंजर ट्रेनें दोपहर में पहुंचती हैं, लिहाजा यहां इस समय भीड़ ज्यादा रहती है।
रेल प्रशासन ने इस समस्या को दूर करने के लिए भीड़ के वक्त रिजर्वेशन काउंटर को यूटीएस यानी अनरिजर्व टिकट काउंटर के तौर पर उपयोग करने की योजना बनाई है। ऐसे में एक काउंटर के सामने लंबी कतार होती है, दूसरा (रिजर्वेशन) काउंटर सूना रहता है।

Patna: Minister of state for railways Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has blamed the state government for not coordinating with the railways keeping in view the large congregation at Dhamara Ghat railway station during the holy month of Shrawan. He also refuted the state government’s claim that 37 persons died in the Monday tragedy.

“The local administration did not alert the railways about the large congregation of pilgrims for the Shrawani fair at the Katyayani temple. Otherwise, we could have taken some measures,” he said at the Patna airport after returning from the accident site on Tuesday morning.

“Actually, only 28 persons died and nine were injured” Chowdhury said. The minister announced that railways would construct a foot overbridge at the accident site under Samastipur division of East Central Railway (ECR) in Khagaria district. New platforms would also be built at Dhamara Ghat and better public address system would also be installed there to check recurrence of any such accident in future, he said.

“Bihar government gets enough funds from the Centre under Prime Minister Gramin Sadak Yojna (PMGSY). It should have, at least, develop a road network at such a remote place where railways is the only mode of transport,” he said.

According to Chowdhury, railways is keen to hold a high-level probe into the matter to fix the responsibility on the guilty persons.

ECR GM Madhuresh Kumar who camped at the site whole night to restore traffic on Saharsa-Mansi section, said the condition of the injured loco pilots, Rajaram Paswan and Sushil Kumar Suman, was much better now. They are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Khagaria, he said, adding that the services of Saharsa-Patna Rajyarani Express (12567/12568) could be restored only by Thursday.

According to ECR CPRO Amitabh Prabhakar, train traffic was restored on that section and Saharsa-Amritsar Express crossed at 1 on the intervening Monday-Tuesday night. However, security has been beefed up at Dhamara Ghat, he said.

Railways have decided to run two additional special trains between Mumbai and Karaikal to clear the extra rush of passengers during Velankanni Festival. The details of service as under –

01027 special train will leave Lokmanya Tilak Terminus at 12.05 hrs o­n 24.8.2013 (Saturday) and will arrive Karaikal at 18.45 hrs next day.

01028 special train will leave Karaikal at 13.35 hrs o­n 26.8.2013 (Monday) and will arrive Lokmanya Tilak Terminus at 23.45 hrs next day.

Halts: Thane, Kalyan, Lonavla, Pune, Solapur, Gulbarga, Wadi, Raichur, Guntakal, Gooty, Kadapa, Renigunta, Arakkonam, Chennai Egmore, Tambaram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Tirupadaripulliyur, Chidambaram, Sirkazhi, Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Nagore.

WR TO RUN SUPERFAST GANAPATI SPECIAL TRAIN TO MADGAON FROM AHMEDABAD (Via VASAI ROAD) ON 07/09/2013



For the convenience of passengers during Ganesh Festival, WR will run o­ne Superfast Special train service between Ahmedabad - Madgaon (Goa) via Vasai Rd o­n 07/09/2013(Saturday) to clear extra rush.



Ahmedabad – Madgaon Superfast Special Train (via Vasai Road)



Train No.09418 Ahmedabad–Madgaon Special Train will leave Ahmedabad at 09.30 hrs o­n 07/09/2013(Saturday). It will arrive at Vasai Rdat 16.25 hrs o­n same day and reach Madgaon at 05.30 hrs the next day.



Similarly, in return direction train No.09417 Madgaon – Ahmedabad Special Train will leave Madgaon at 07.15 hrs o­n Sunday, 08/09/2013.It will arrive at Vasai Rd at 21.10 hrs the same day and reach Ahmedabad at 04.10 hrs the next day.



The train will halt at Nadiad, Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Vapi, Vasai Road, Panvel, Khed, Chiplun, Ratnagiri, Kankavali, Kudal, Sawantwadi, Thivim and Karmali stations in both directions.



The train will have AC 2-tier, AC 3-tier; Sleeper class and II class general coaches.



The booking for 09418 will open at all Passenger Reservation Centers o­n 22nd August, 2013.

Though the Western Railway (WR) last month initiated work to raise the height of selected platforms, passengers are unlikely to get immediate respite.

Considering the current administration’s work speed, completion of the platform raising work will take at least 21 months.

This means commuters won’t get respite from perilous suburban travel before May 2015.

The Railway Design and Standards Organisation gave clearance to increase the height of a platform from 760 mm to 920 mm.

In 2012, the WR had conducted a survey in which 32 out of a total of 132 platforms were found most critical.

Currently, work is underway at Grant Road, Charni Road, Elphinstone, Lower Parel, Vile Parle and Khar, while work at five other stations will start soon.

The administration has earmarked sets of three platforms.

Each set is expected to take two months to finish, and only after work on one set is over will work on another set start.

“We are trying to expedite this work so that we can raise all critical platforms at the earliest. The sanction for 32 platforms has arrived, but we are still trying to get approval for 16 more platforms so that work on 48 suburban platforms is complete,” said Shailendra Kumar, divisional railway manager (DRM), WR.

However, activists said that this initiative has come too late.

“The high court had directed the railways to reduce the platform-train gap in 2004, but till date, the work is not complete,” said commuter activist Sameer Zaveri.

Arunkumar Dhar, 46, fell in the gap between the platform and the train while trying to board a local at Mahalaxmi station on Monday, is the latest victim.

When asked if his family would receive compensation, Sharat Chandrayan, chief public relations officer, WR, said, “No such request has been made by them. And such compensation was not paid for similar incidents in the past.”

LUCKNOW: After UP cabinet nod to the detailed project report (DPR) on the Metro Rail project in Lucknow, the ball is now in the Central government’s court. The project execution would mainly depend on the Central funding, without which the project may not get implemented. The project holds significance for the Samajwadi Party which is gearing up for the Lok Sabha elections.

Sources in the housing department said the state government will now follow the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) model wherein the Centre and the state will together be putting 50% equity. According to the model, the maximum equity could be up to 20% of the total cost. That is, the state government will seek at least 20% of the funds of the total project cost from the Centre while pushing the rest 20% from its own purse. The state government will raise the remaining 60% of the project cost through loans from the financial institutions.

Initial estimates peg the project cost around Rs 12,000 crore. This means the state would seek between Rs 2,000 and Rs 2,500 crore from the Centre for the Metro project.

Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has already declared that work on the project would begin in December this year. But that will happen only when the Centre approves the DPR and gives financial assistance. Sources said until now the state government had only prepared a draft report, but now the latest report has been finalised and will be sent to the Centre for approval. Officials said the Centre may have two options: it could either give its nod or send back the report for some modifications. Sources indicated the state government in certain cases may also raise its equity, while still depending heavily on the loans from the financial institutions.

The state government would form a company on the lines of DMRC only after getting clearance for DPR. It could be named as Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (LMRC). Owing to uncertainty over the financial model the state government has not formed a company till now.

The project has already undergone dramatic changes, ostensibly the proposed routes and the way they would be laid — elevated/underground. Sources said a consultant for a detail design of the project will be appointed. The state government is in touch with the two Central institutions – RITES and the DMRC – in this regard. Officials said DMRC was certain to come up with a design for the north-south corridor which is proposed to be taken up in the first phase.

The 22.8-Km north-south corridor, stretching between Amausi airport and Munshipulia, has been modified in the new DPR. The new DPR has reduced the underground stretch from 7.5 km to 3.5 km while restricting it to between Charbagh and Hazratganj. This will save around Rs 1,000 crore from the total project cost, sources said. The total cost of the N-S corridor is pegged at Rs 6,757 crore. The north-south corridor will have 22 stations – three underground and rest elevated. The corroder is expected to see passenger footfall of around 6.45 lakh daily by 2020.

During peak hours, technically termed as Peak House Peak Direction Traffic, the number of passengers is expected to be around 21,000 daily.

Both Thiruvananthapuram and Palakkad Divisional Railway Managers have directed all station masters in their respective divisions to repeatedly play announcements on public safety at the stations. They have been told to take strict action against passengers found sitting on footboards and those who get down before the train halts at the station. Announcements advising people to use foot overbridge, instead of crossing railway tracks, should be played, the order said. Commercial staff have been told to ensure that doors on the off-side of the train where there will be no platforms should remain closed all the time. Passengers are requested to alight only at the platforms and are supposed to use the foot overbridge of the trolley path. The announcements will continue so as to educate the public on the dangers of not using the proper routes. Thiruvananthapuram Divisional Railway Manager Rajesh Agarwal said the division has already been ensuring that such incidents don’t take place. “For this, special drives are being conducted. We have given strict orders to the station masters to play the announcements several times. If any untoward incident takes place, it is the responsibility of the station masters. Strict action will be taken against them if they fail to follow the orders,” he said. Announcements warning ticketless travellers and season ticket holders from entering reserved coaches are also being made.

Dhamara Ghat (Khagaria): Union Minister of State (MOS) for Railways Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary visited Dhamara Ghat railway station late on Monday night where, in all, 28 passengers were run over and killed by 12567 Rajyarani Express while crossing the rail track earlier in the day.

The railway minister also visited the persons who were seriously injured in the incident at Sadar hospital, Khagaria. He personally handed over a cheque of Rs 95,000 and a cash of Rs 5,000 to each of the three admitted in the hospital. The railways has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the next of the kin of those who were killed by the train at the station, according to Samastipur Divisional Railway Manager Arun Malik.

A four-member junior administrative grade inquiry has, in the meantime, been ordered into the ghastly accident at Dhamara Ghat railway station in Saharsa-Mansi section of Samastipur Railway Division of East Central Railway (ECR) on Monday morning, the DRM said.

DRM Malik, shrugging off railways’ culpability in the accident said, “The passengers had got off the Saharsa-Samastipur passenger train on the wrong side of the platform and were walking through the middle track at the station when Patna-bound super fast Rajyarani Express happened to pass through.”

Putting the blame squarely on the hordes of passengers, he said, “The train had not only been given signal, and the train driver also blew the horn, but in the din of the passengers, who were hurrying towards Katyani temple,opposite to the railway platform, missed the engine’s hoot.”

“The question of suspension of any railway staff does not arise,” he said. He also added that the engine driver of Rajyarani Express Rajaram Paswan had to face the mob fury and was seriously injured.

Meanwhile, train services in Saharsa-Mansi section in Samastipur division were resumed late on Monday night. 15208 Amritsar-Saharsa Jansewa Express, Danapur-Saharsa Inter-City Express, Sealdah- Saharsa Haatey Bazare crossed on Tuesday.

However, Saharsa-Patna Rajyarani Express and Patna-Saharsa Kosi Express are suspended even on Tuesday.

In all, 15 out of 19 coaches of Rajyarani Express and 5 out of 11 coaches of Saharsa-Samastipur Passengers and engines of both the trains were torched by irate mob which had converged at the station. The burnt coaches and engines have, in the meantime, been towed away, railway sources said.
