A small portion of railway lines were damaged when a landmine planted by Maoists went off at Harichandanpur area of Odisha's Keonjhar district police sources said today. None was hurt in the incident on Jakhpura-Bansapani railway line between Sagadpata and Tangiriapal yesterday, the sources said. Since only a small portion of the track was damaged, train services on the route remained unaffected. A detonator and some wire were recovered from the spot.

With an aim to provide better passenger amenities and comfort to the commuters, Railways have decided to augment additional coaches in Puri-Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT)-Puri Express, Puri-Sai Nagar Shirdi-Puri Express and Koraput-Visakhapatnam-Koraput Express o­n permanent basis.

One AC-3 tier coach each will be augmented permanently in 22866/22865 Puri-LTT-Puri Express w.e.f. 27th August from Puri & w.e.f. 29thAugust 2013 from LTT and in 18407/18408 Puri-Sai Nagar Shirdi-Puri Express w.e.f. 30th August 2013 from Puri and w.e.f. 1st September 2013 from Sai Nagar Shirdi.

Similarly, 18512/18511 Visakhapatnam-Koraput-Visakhapatnam bi-weekly express will be augmented with 02 Second Class Chair Car coach w.e.f. 23rd August 2013 from Visakhapatnam and w.e.f. 24th August 2013 from Koraput.

The Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (DMICDC) plans to build an Intra-city rail network in the Dholera Special Investment Region in Gujarat.

The project is estimated to cost $500 million.

The Dholera region, spread over 900 square kilometres, is being developed as a new greenfield industrial hub in Gujarat. It is about 100 km south of Ahmedabad and a designated investment zone under the ambitious Delhi Mumbai Industrial corridor project.

DMICDC is the lead developer of Dholera. The Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development project is being partly funded by the Japanese Government.

A senior official of DMICDC told Business Line that since Dholera is being developed as a city of the future with an integrated infrastructure, this will help attract investments and enhance productivity. Therefore, the corporation is considering the setting up either a mono or Metro rail system for commuters to travel within the city.

The corporation will shortly appoint a consultant to study the technical and financial feasibility of the transport project.

The DMIDC has already acquired about 100 sq. km. of land under the first phase. Construction for the city will start by December. The land has been acquired using the pooling method, which ensures that the original owner gets back compensatory land close to the project site.

Lakhimpur, Aug 22 (PTI) An elephant was today crushed under the wheels of the Gokul Express in the Manjhra Purab range of Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary, an official said.

"A probe into the matter has been initiated and if the train driver is found guilty, appropriate legal action would be taken," Divisional Forest Officer of the sanctuary, Ashish, told PTI.

He added that the aged tusker was trying to cross the railway tracks near Khairatia railway station when the incident occurred.

A 24-year-old woman was delivered of a male baby in the general compartment of Kacheguda–Mangalore (Weekly) special at Salem Railway Junction here on early Wednesday morning.

Sabeena was returning home from her parent’s house in Hyderabad in Mallapuram. When the train arrived at the junction at around 1 a.m., she developed labour pain. Her relatives informed the railway police who informed the station doctor.

A special ticket checking drive at Kadiyam and Tanuku railway stations by the Vijayawada Division of South Central Railway on August 20 yielded Rs.86,640 from ticketless travellers and Rs.2.52 lakh from Cleanliness Drive.

 A press release from the Railways said that a massive ticket checking drive was conducted under the supervision  of Senior Divisional Commercial Manager N.V. Satyanarayana and Assistant Commercial Manager Ch. Lakshminarayana, at Tanuku and Kadiyam Railway stations on August 20, and Rs.86,640 was realised. A Cleanliness Drive was also conducted all over the Vijayawada division and up to August 20 and Rs.2,52,000 was realised from the offenders.

In view of the commencement of works for the construction of road over bridge from August 25, the Kondayyapalem railway gate will be closed for vehicular staff from 10 p.m. on August 24. The vehicular traffic will be diverted through Atchyuthapuram gate and Two-Town bridge till the completion of the construction works, according to a railway press release issued here on Wednesday.

Southern Railway Mazdoor Union, Tiruchi, has urged the Southern Railway General Manager to take steps to fill up vacancies and create additional posts at Tiruchi division in view of the increased work load.The union office bearers handed over a memorandum containing a set of demands to the Southern Railway General Manager Rakesh Misra during his visit to the city on Tuesday.The memorandum said train services had increased all over Tiruchi Division with double line to be completed in the chord line section from Villupuram to Tiruchi. Considering the present and future workloads, additional trackmen should be posted in the division. There were more than 100 vacancies in the Station Master category in the division. The station masters are forced to work in roster and their request for voluntary retirement was not being accepted.The union requested the General Manager to sanction over time allowance to all station masters in Tiruchi division as was being sanctioned in other divisions. The memorandum further said many vacancies prevailed in Group ‘D’ operating staff. Implementation of eight hours roster for Traffic staff working in stations and gatekeepers of Traffic / Engineering department in the chord line section and creation of additional posts of ticket checking staff were among their other demands.

DHAMARAGHAT (KHAGARIA): Railways have constituted four teams each comprising three junior and senior grade officials and an inspector, which will go to every village home of the next of kin of those who were run over and killed by Rajyarani Express at Dhamaraghat railway station on Saharsa-Mansi section under Samastipur division of East Central Railway (ECR) on Monday.Divisional railway manager (DRM), Samastipur, Arun Malik, on Wednesday said the railways' teams will get in touch with the mukhiyas, block development officers and the police officers concerned to ascertain the identity of the victims' kin and ensure that the ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh offered by the railways and additional Rs 2 lakh by the state government goes to the right beneficiaries."As most of the beneficiaries may not have their own bank accounts, the railway teams will also help them in opening bank accounts," the DRM said. The teams have already been dispatched, he said.The 12568 Super Fast Rajyarani Express will chug out from Patna railway Junction on Wednesday and make its return journey from Saharsa on Thursday which was disrupted since Monday following the tragedy at Dhamara Ghat station. This superfast train and Saharsa-Amritsar Janseva Express, along with others will run according to their schedule from Thursday onwards, said the DRM. The work on repairs of signalling system and station building panels, which are now in full swing, will take three to four days, a senior railway official said.

Dhamgara Ghat railway station, which is famous for the Katyayani temple, barely 400 meters away from the station, is a pathetic tale of neglect and apathy. Girded up by rivers, it is virtually an island, and rail is the only link to this place. On either side of this place that is between Koparia and Dhamara Ghat and again between Dhamara and Badlaghat, a stretch of 14 km, there is no road. The inhabitants trek the area through two abandoned bridges across rivers Bagmati and Kosi. "You cannot even afford a bicycle," said one Rambabu Mishra. Often people take countryboats to reach the station," said Navin Kumar, who lives near the Katyayani temple.

"It did not surprise me when the state disaster management minister, Renu Kumari Kushwaha, called upon the injured persons at Khagaria sadar hospital but avoided visiting the accident site at Dhamara Ghat station, barely 40 km away, which must be due to lack of road," says Raj Kumar, a college teacher at Simri Bakhtiyarpur. The British government laid the rail track between Saharsa and Mansi, but no state government has ever cared to construct a road in the area, said one Yugal Ram.

पश्चिम रेलवे ने त्योहार के दौरान ट्रेनों में यात्रियों की सुविधा को ध्यान में रखते हुए इंदौर से पुणे और इन्दौर से गुजरात के गांधी नगर तक चलने वाली ट्रेनों में 22 अगस्त से दो दिन तक अतिरिक्त कोच लगाये जाएंगे। पश्चिम रेलवे के रतलाम मंडल के प्रवक्ता ने बताया कि ट्रेन संख्या 19312 इंदौर-पुणे एक्सप्रेस में 22 अगस्त और 23 अगस्त को स्लीपर का एक कोच तथा ट्रेन संख्या 19310 इंदौर-गांधीनगर शांति एक्सप्रेस में 22 अगस्त को दो स्लीपर कोच और 23 अगस्त को एक स्लीपर कोच अतिरिक्त लगाया जाएगा। उन्होंने बताया कि इससे इन श्रेणियों में यात्रा करने वाले यात्रियों की वेटिंग लिस्ट कम होगी।
