Several organisations thanked the Union government for its plans to run a new overnight train from Bidar to Bangalore, which is likely to commence operations in September.“I am very happy. I never thought this would happen in my lifetime,” B.G. Shetkar, president of the Bidar Chamber of Commerce and Industries, told The Hindu .He described it as “a revolutionary step that would not only boost Bidar’s industrial development but also increase the tourist footfall to the city’s historical monuments.”But more importantly, it will improve the administration’s efficiency. It will enable senior IAS officials and Ministers to visit the district to monitor development programmes more often, Mr. Shetkar felt. He also thanked Railway Minister M. Mallikarjun Kharge and N. Dharam Singh, MP.Srikanth Swamy, president of the Jilla Samagra Abhivruddhi Horata Samiti, said it would address many problems in the district. “It will benefit the poor greatly as trains remain the cheapest mode of transport,” he said.

Anand Devappa, Youth Congress president (Bidar Parliamentary constituency), said this was the result of Mr. Kharge’s relentless work. He was instrumental in getting Article 371 amended and has proven again that the Union government is committed to safeguarding the people’s welfare.

Madanlal Meena took over as Additional Divisional Railway Manager, Waltair, from C. Madhusudhana Rao who has been transferred to Western Railway as Joint Secretary.Mr. Meena hails from Rajasthan and is an officer of the Indian Railway Services for Electrical Engineering 1988 batch. A graduate in Electrical Engineering from the Malaviya National Institute of Technology, Jaipur, Mr Meena, was earlier Senior Divisional Safety Officer of Vadodara Division of Western Railway.

For better security on trains and railway premises

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has sought 640 more personnel to provide security to passengers, check subversive activities and crimes on trains and railway premises, and face new challenges in the railway network of the State.The request for additional RPF personnel from the divisional level has been forwarded through the zonal headquarters of Southern Railway in Chennai to the Railway Board in Delhi for sanction, a top RPF official said .The additional personnel will increase the strength of the RPF from the present 465 to 1,105, and enable the force to make its presence felt more in the railway network.The RPF is headed by a Commissioner and has an Assistant Commissioner to take care of the vast stretch from Tirunelveli to Kanyakumari and from there to Vallathol Nagar.  The number of trains being escorted by the RPF can also be increased from the present 50 once the additional personnel join the force, the official said.

At present, 100 RPF personnel are used for train escort duties daily with the minimum force available.

Of the 465 personnel on the rolls in the division now, only 21 are women - 19 constables and two sub-inspectors.

The women police constables travel in the women’s ladies coach of railway passenger trains in the State from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

The request for more personnel comes at a time when the RPF is gearing up to implement the Integrated Security System (ISS) at Thiruvananthapuram Central and Ernakulam Junction stations.

The modern security system is part of Railways’ efforts to step up security, ensure safety of the travelling public, and avert terror attacks.

The ISS will be managed by the personnel of the RPF.

Training

The RPF personnel will be trained by the company that has bagged the orders for the two stations to handle hi-tech gadgets, including vehicle scanners to detect explosive substances on vehicles entering and leaving the station, and multi-zone doorframe metal detectors, he said.

The increasing crime against women in the railway network is a major challenge for the force.

To instil a sense of security among the women passengers, the RPF has started an awareness programme under the leadership of Divisional Security Commissioner Rajnish Kumar Tripathi. On Independence Day, pamphlets were distributed to passengers at Thiruvananthapuram Central station as part of the awareness drive.

The two Crime Prevention and Detection Squads (CPDS) set up to provide security to passengers and check subversive activities in Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam had been able to check crimes on trains and railway stations premises.

The squad members who travel in plainclothes gathered intelligence on criminals directly or in liaison with the local police and the Government Railway Police personnel, the official said.

धमारा स्टेशन पर बिखरे रेल टिकट को एकत्रित कर रेल कर्मी द्वारा शुक्रवार को टिकट को मिलाने का काम जारी रहा। 19 अगस्त को रेल हादसे के बाद आक्रोशित लोगों ने स्टेशन में तोड़ फोड़ करते हुए टिकट को भी तहस-नहस कर दिया था। हो-हल्ला शांत होने पर उसे समेट कर इकट्ठा किया। अब कर्मियों ने सभी टिकटों के सीरीज को खंगालते हुए वर्गीकृत किया है। इस दौरान एक कर्मी ने अपना नाम नहीं छापने के शर्त पर बताया कि इन सभी टिकटों का आडिट होगा। विभाग के निर्देशानुसार इसका इस्तेमाल किया जायेगा। प्लेटफार्म के फर्श पर बैठकर कई कर्मी रेल टिकटों मिलान करने में परेशान दिखे। इधर, स्टेशन पर रोजाना की तरह लोगों का परिचालन शुरू हो गया है। ट्रेन पकड़ने के लिए पहले की तरह स्टेशनों पर भीड़ देखी जा रही है। सीनियर डीसीएम एमएआई हूमायू ने बताया कि एकत्रित की गई टिकट को मिलान कर जला दी जायेगी। कंप्यूटर लगने के बाद ही यात्री को टिकट दिया जायेगा। घटना में कंप्यूटर पूरी क्षतिग्रस्त हो गया है।
बताते चलें सोमवार को धमहरा घाट स्टेशन पर राज्यरानी सुपरफास्ट एक्सप्रेस से कट कर 28 लोगों की मौत के बाद आक्रोशित लोगों द्वारा ट्रेन को आग के हवाले कर स्टेशन को पूरी तरह क्षतिग्रस्त कर दिया गया था। स्टेशन मास्टर कार्यालय स्थित टिकट घर को भी लोगों ने पूरी तरह बर्बाद कर दिया था। सभी मशीनों को क्षतिग्रस्त कर रेलवे टिकट को यत्र-तत्र फेंक दिया गया था।

प्रतापगढ़। स्टेशन से मुंबई जाने वाली उद्योग नगरी की एक-एक सीट दलाल बेंच लेते हैं। गाड़ी के प्लेटफार्म पर आते ही दर्जनों की संख्या में दलाल और बाहरी लोग जनरल डिब्बे में घुस जाते हैं और सीटों पर कब्जा कर लेते हैं। जब यात्री भीतर पहुंचते हैं तो उन्हें बैठने के लिए भी सीट नहीं मिलती है। इसके बाद सौदेबाजी शुरू हो जाती है। यदि किसी ने इसका विरोध किया तो उसकी पिटाई कर दी जाती है।
प्रतापगढ़ से लोकमान्य तिलक टर्मिनस के लिए हफ्ते में दो दिन उद्योग नगरी एक्सप्रेस जाती है। इसके छूटने का समय रात में 1.50 बजे होने के बाद भी इसमें भारी भीड़ होती है। जैसे ही वाशिंग लाइन से ट्रेन प्लेटफार्म पर लगती है बाहरी लोग और दलाल दरवाजा खोलकर अंदर घुस जाते हैं। आम यात्री ट्रेन के खड़े होने का इंतजार करता है। एक आदमी और लोगों के साथ होने की बात कहकर एक पूरी सीट घेर लेता है। इससे जब यात्री अंदर घुसते हैं तो सीटें खाली होने के बाद भी उन्हें खड़ा रहना पड़ता है। इनकी संख्या भी अधिक रहती है। इसके कारण यदि किसी ने विरोध किया तो उसकी पिटाई कर दी जाती है। सहमे यात्री खड़े ही रह जाते हैं। एक-एक सीट 100 से 50 रुपये में बेची जाती है। पहले से रुपये थमा चुके यात्रियों को सीट दे दी जाती है। बाद में खड़े यात्रियों से सौदेबाजी शुरू होती है। रुपये देने वाले को तुरंत उसकी अपेक्षानुसार सीट उपलब्ध करा दी जाती है।
ट्रेन में दलालों और बाहरी लोगों का कब्जा महज आधे घंटे होता है। इतने में ही वे यात्रियों से पैसा वसूलकर निकल जाते हैं। मारपीट की सूचना जीआरपी पहुंचती जरूर है लेकिन तब तक सभी जा चुके होते हैं। यही किसी को जीआरपी पकड़ती भी है तो वह प्लेटफार्म टिकट दिखाकर बच निकलता है। इनकी संख्या दर्जनों में होने के कारण यह एक दूसरे के पक्ष में खड़े हो जाते हैं। ऐसे में इस ट्रेन के जनरल डिब्बे में यात्रा करने वालों की जान सांसत में पड़ी रहती है।
इस काम में महिलाएं भी शामिल हैं। वे सीटों पर कब्जा जमाने के लिए अपने बच्चों को लेकर ट्रेन पर बैठती हैं। यात्रियों के साथ घुसने के बाद भी वे सीटों पर बच्चों के माध्यम से कब्जा कर लेती हैं। बच्चों का वास्ता देकर ट्रेन की खिड़की की तरफ वाली सीटों पर बैठना इनका उद्देश्य होता है। जैसे ही इनके द्वारा सेट यात्री पहुंचता है वे महिला डिब्बे में जाने का बहाना कर उतर जाती हैं। एसओ जीआरपी भूपेंद्र सिंह कहते है कि ऐसी कोई सूचना नहीं मिलती। मारपीट की सूचना पर सिपाही पहुंचते हैं। रात में गश्त भी कराई जाती है। अगर ऐसी बात है तो इसे देखवाया जाएगा।

BHOPAL: A number of trains were running late after a portion of support base of railway tracks between Magardoh and Barbatpur stations in Betul district on the New Delhi-Chennai route washed away due to heavy rain.Nearly 30-metre long support base has been washed away on the Up line affecting rail traffic in the section, said railway officials. Trains were running on the Down line only.The damage to the tracks was extensive and authorities could not give timeline for restoration.Accompanied by a technical team, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Nagpur division Brajesh Dixit visited the spot on Friday morning and inspected the restoration work.Besides, Up trains were running late 6-8 hours while Down trains about an hour, according to railway officials.Up trains like Andaman Express, Madurai Chandigarh Express, Gondwana Express, GT Express, Dakshin etc were running more than 6 hours late while Down trains like Patna Secunderabad Express, GT Express, Bangalore Hazrat Nizamuddin Express etc were about an hour late.

The railway traffic was being cleared at Itarsi station as only one track was available for trains.

Three days after the accident in Khagaria district in which 28 pilgrims were crushed to death by the speeding Saharsa-Patna Rajya Rani Express, considered the lifeline of Kosi belt, resumed its service from Thursday.The 12567 UP Saharsa-Patna Rajya Rani Express left for the State Capital at its schedule time 7 a.m. on Thursday, Chief Public Relation Officer (CPRO) East-Central Railway Amitabh Prabhakar said.Instead of 19 coaches earlier, the train had only 15 coaches. - PTI

The district Congress committee has requested the Railway Ministry to operate daily passenger train services between Karur and Dindigul to cater to the demands of thousands of workers who are employed at factories in the towns from nearby areas.Thousands of daily wage earners from villages commute to hundreds of textile and allied industries in the two districts for work. Most of them are unskilled and had to spend a majority of their meagre income on transportation. Inadequate train services force them to rely on road connectivity at a high cost, it said.
