MUMBAI: A scuffle between a railway commuter, who is a city advocate, and a booking clerk at Churchate station on Saturday turned ugly with the advocate injuring his thumb following which he had to be admitted to GT hospital. The altercation, sources say, was over the change of Rs 100 for a ticket. Sources said that the advocate had not registered any complaint against the clerk. Western Railway senior spokesperson Sharat Chandrayan said that the advocate was "at fault" as he had trespassed and entered the booking office unauthorised. "It was a matter of giving back change for Rs 100 that had been given by the advocate. There was an argument at the booking counter following which the commuter entered our cabin and there was an altercation." Chandrayan however, said that the advocate had only suffered a minor injury on his finger nails. But Rohit Sawant, a friend of the advocate, told TOI : "Had it only been a nail injury, my friend wouldn't have been admitted to the hospital. He had severely injured his thumb in the altercation. But his family is not keen on pursuing the matter."

Sawant alleged that the clerk was "responsible" for the incident and the injury.

"It appears that my friend's finger was bit during the altercation," Sawant said.

Union Railway Minister M. Mallikarjun Kharge said that the replacement of the railway freight wagons with fourth-generation wagons, which boast additional carrying capacity and a longer lifespan, was going as per schedule.Speaking at a presentation on the replacement process at the Vasavadatta Cement Guest House here on Sunday, Mr. Kharge said that the new wagons, with a single sliding door and high-security locking system, would replace the old double-door wagons.Mr. Kharge said that another 12,722 fourth generation wagons would be required across India.

Advantages

The new wagons presented a sleek look with increased height and shorter length. The carrying capacity of the new wagons is 70.8 tonnes, as compared to the old wagons which could carry 64 to 66 tonnes. The lifespan of the older wagons is 25 years, while that of the fourth-generation wagons is 30 years.

Officials of the South Central Railway told the Minister that 3,306 new wagons have replaced the second and third generation versions. Another 1,396 wagons were needed to finish the job.

Mr. Kharge wanted to know why there was a shortage of wagons, particularly during the harvest season, in States such as Punjab and Haryana, and why officials were not introducing the required number of wagons. Railway officials told the Minister that there was no proposal before the ministry to introduce new wagons. These wagons would only be needed during the times of harvest, and the rest of the time these wagons would be sitting idle, causing losses to the railways.

However, the railways is according top priority to the movement of foodgrains during harvest season.

Later, the Minister held a closed-door meeting with officials of the Railway Department and the Vasavadatta Cement Factory.

सोनीपत : शहर के रोहतक रोड रेलवे ओवरब्रिज के दोहरीकरण का मामला अब रेलवे के पाले में है। लोक निर्माण विभाग की ओर से दिल्ली रेल मंडल के बरोदा हाउस में ओवरब्रिज के डिजाइन को संस्तुति के लिए भेजा जा चुका है। लेकिन रेलवे की हरी झंडी मिलने में हो रही देरी की वजह से ओवरब्रिज के दोहरीकरण का कार्य शुरू नहीं हो पाया है।
क्या है योजना
वर्ष 2011 में मुख्यमंत्री द्वारा रोहतक रोड रेलवे ओवरब्रिज के साथ एक और ओवरब्रिज बनाने की घोषणा की गई थी। ताकि दोहरीकरण होने से भारी वाहनों की आवाजाही सुचारु रूप से हो सके। योजना को लेकर लोक निर्माण विभाग की ओर से ओवरब्रिज का डिजाइन तैयार किया गया है। इसमें पुल के निर्माण पर करीब 25.4 करोड़ रुपये खर्च होने का प्रस्ताव तैयार किया गया। विभाग के प्रस्ताव के बाद रेलवे के हिस्से में आने वाले पुल को लेकर लोक निर्माण विभाग की ओर से डिजाइन दिल्ली मंडल के बरोदा हाउस भेज दिया गया। जहां से उसके अनुमति का इंतजार है।
कई दौर की हो चुकी है बैठक
रेलवे ओवरब्रिज के निर्माण को जल्द पूरा करने के लिए लोनिवि की ओर से कई बार रेलवे अधिकारियों से डिजाइन को अंतिम रूप देने की कवायद की जा चुकी है। लोनिवि के अधिकारियों के मुताबिक, रेलवे की ओर से संस्तुति में देरी की वजह से ओवरब्रिज योजना को तय समय पर सिरे चढ़ाने में दिक्कत आ सकती है।
ओवरब्रिज पर लगा रहता है जाम
रोहतक रोड ओवरब्रिज पर ट्रैफिक का दवाब लगातार बढ़ता जा रहा है। स्थिति इस कदर बिगड़ चुकी है कि दिन के समय अक्सर यहां जाम की स्थिति बनी रहती है। खास तौर पर गोहाना रोड रेलवे फाटक के बंद होने के कारण इस ओवरब्रिज पर वाहनों की आवाजाही कई गुणा बढ़ गई है। मौजूदा स्थिति में इस ओवरब्रिज का दोहरीकरण जल्द किया जाना आवश्यक हो गया है।
आइटीआइ चौक के पुल से पहले तक बनेगा टू लेन सीमेंटेड सड़क
शहर के आइटीआइ चौक से रोहतक रोड रेलवे पुल से पहले तक टू लेन सीमेंटेड सड़क का निर्माण होगा। इस बारे में लोनिवि की ओर से निदेशालय प्रस्ताव भेजा गया था। फिलहाल यह सड़क तारकोल की है तथा जलभराव की वजह से यह जल्द ही टूट जाती है। इस वजह से लोनिवि की ओर से इसे सीमेंटेड बनाने की बात कही गई थी। लोनिवि के अधिकारियों के अनुसार, करीब सवा करोड़ रुपये के बजट से इस सड़क को सीमेंटेड तैयार किया जाएगा। ताकि जलभराव के बावजूद यह सड़क जल्द नहीं टूट पाए।
क्या कहते हैं सर्कल अधीक्षण अभियंता
सर्कल अधीक्षण अभियंता सुरेश डांगी ने बताया कि रोहतक रोड ओवरब्रिज के पास एक और पुल बनने की योजना रेलवे के डिजाइन संस्तुति के बाद ही सिरे चढ़ सकती है। रेलवे से हरी झंडी मिलते ही इसका टेंडर निकाला जाएगा। वे लगातार रेलवे अधिकारियों से इसके डिजाइन को पास करवाने के लिए बातचीत कर रहे हैं। कई बार उनसे बैठकें भी हो चुकी हैं।

NAGPUR: Taking swift action after complaints of harassment by women passengers on a train, Itwari railway police nabbed a group of 15 youths from Shivnath Express as soon as it reached Itwari Railway station early on Thursday morning.The group of youths hailing from Bilaspur and Raipur were employees of a private company and were coming to Nagpur to attend an official meeting.Police have booked the youths on a complaint lodged by Khaperkheda resident Aarti Trivedi, 48, and Narendra Agrawal from Korba.Trivedi was travelling with her two young daughters and Agrawal was with his wife. They claimed that during the journey, the youths first sang indecent songs and passed abusive comments towards Trivedi's daughters and Agrawal's wife.The duo informed the TTE and even alerted railway police control room. The youths were produced in the court on Thursday afternoon and released on bail with Rs 500 fine each.

LUCKNOW: The army recruitment drive in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, turned riotous on Saturday when thousands of unsuccessful applicants went on a rampage during an army recruitment campaign. Pelting stones at buses and stopping trains on the last day of the 'Sena Bharti Mela' at the RPSF camp, several aspirants from Mau district were put through selection test but failed to make the cut. While a totalof 362 were selected, nearly 5000, local police said, were found ineligible. A few of these 5,000 failed candidates created a ruckus at the railway platforms, bus stations and streets of the city, on their way home, reports said.Things turned ugly after the aspirants insisted on travelling in local transport-- auto-rickshaws and buses -- but failed to pay the requisite fare. When asked to pay up, some resorted to pelting stones at roadways buses, the police said. Local police also said they looted railway vendors and stopped several trains passing through Gorakhpur, including the Durg Express, Bagh Express and Varanasi-Gorakhpur Intercity trains on Cantt Railway station, even trying to board them.

Local sources also said the applicants stopped Shaheed Express at the Cantt railway station, delaying it by several hours. The train was able to move only after local policemen and RPF jawans intervened and controlled the mob. Following the racket, the railways said they are attempting to identify the miscreants through CCTV footage. They also said the guilty will be punished, once the identification is completed.

ABSU withdraws hunger strike

GUWAHATI, Aug 24 – The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) withdrew its indefinite hunger strike today after the announcement of the dates for tripartite talks with the organisations agitating for creation of separate states. The central committee of the ABSU is scheduled to meet on August 27 to decide its future course of action.
Talking to The Assam Tribune after withdrawal of the hunger strike, ABSU president Promode Boro said that the organisation has received a letter from the Deputy Commissioner, Kokrajhar, mentioning the schedule of talks with the agitating groups. Talks with the ABSU would be held on September 4 and a meeting with the Bodo National Conference would be held on September 5.

Boro said that creation of a separate state would not be the only issue to be raised by the ABSU at the tripartite talks. He said that the issues of granting scheduled tribe status to the Bodos living in Karbi Anglong, bringing the Mising, Rabha and Tiwa councils under the provisions of the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution of India, setting up of a Central University, Indian Institute of Technology, Indian Institute of Management, medical college etc., in the Bodoland area, construction of sports facilities, more powers to the existing autonomous councils in the State etc., would be raised by the ABSU at the tripartite meeting.

Meanwhile, the Bodo National Conference (BNC) has expressed its desire to join hands with the ABSU in the movement for a separate state.

मीरजापुर : जिले में बढ़ती रेल दुर्घटनाओं को रोकने के लिए रेलवे प्रशासन जल्द ही नई कवायद शुरू करने जा रहा है। इसके तहत इलाहाबाद-मुगलसराय व चुनार-चोपनरेल प्रखंड पर पड़ने वाले प्लेटफार्म विहीन उन स्टेशन पर दुर्घटना रोकने को ऊंचे प्लेटफार्म का निर्माण कराया जाएगा। इसके लिए रेलवे अभियंताओं को प्रस्ताव बनाकर भेजने का निर्देश दिया गया है। सर्किल स्तर पर कवायद भी शुरू हो गई है।
उत्तर मध्य रेलवे इलाहाबाद के मीरजापुर सर्किल में विरोही, झिंगुरा, डगमगपुर, लूसा, शक्तेशगढ़ स्टेशन पर प्लेटफार्म नहीं है। यहा रेलवे लाइन पार करने के लिए ओवरब्रिज भी नहीं बना है। मालूम हो की झिंगुरा स्टेशन पर वर्षभर पहले लाइन क्रास करते समय ट्रेन की चपेट में आने से एक की मौत हो गई थी जबकि आधा दर्जन लोग घायल हो गए थे। इस घटना को संज्ञान में लेते हुए स्थानीय अधिकारियों ने प्लेटफार्म को ऊंचा करने का प्रस्ताव भेजा था लेकिन इसके लिए बजट नहीं मिल पा रहा था।
आए दिन झिंगुरा, विरोही, लूसा व डगमगपुर स्टेशन पर अप और डाउन लूप लाइन में ट्रेन खड़ी हो जाती है फिर क्या लोगों को जान जोखिम में डालकर बोगी के नीचे से ही लाइन पर करनी पड़ती है। इससे दुर्घटना की आशंका हमेशा बनी रहती है। दुर्घटना को रोकने के लिए प्लेटफार्म व ओवरब्रिज का निर्माण आवश्यक है।
रेल यात्रियों की सुविधा को ध्यान में रखते हुए उत्तर मध्य रेलवे के मंडल रेल प्रबंधक हरेंद्र राव ने इन जगहों पर प्लेटफार्म निर्माण के संकेत दिए हैं। इसे लेकर जहां दैनिक यात्रियों राजगढ़ के रामकुमार सिंह, लूसा के राजन प्रसाद सहित कई न हर्ष जताया है। वहीं कई यात्रियों ने खगड़िया बिहार के धमारा घाम स्टेशन पर सोमवार को रेलवे ट्रैक पर हुए हादसे में जान गवांने लोगों के प्रति श्रद्धांजलि अर्पित की है।

भागलपुर: अब भागलपुर से जम्मू तक का सफर 36.40 घंटे में पूरा हो जायेगा. गुरुवार को भागलपुर-जम्मूतवी अमरनाथ एक्सप्रेस को हरी झंडी दिखाकर रवाना किये जाते ही शहर का रेल संपर्क सीधे जम्मू से जुड़ गया. रात 8.30 बजे सांसद शाहनवाज हुसैन ने दुल्हन की तरह सजी रेलगाड़ी को हरी झंडी दिखायी. अगले सप्ताह से यह ट्रेन सप्ताह में एक दिन यानी गुरुवार रात 11.50 बजे भागलपुर जंक्शन से खुलेगी और शनिवार दिन के 12.30 बजे जम्मू पहुंचेगी. इस मौके पर सांसद ने कहा कि अब शहरवासियों के लिए माता वैष्णौ देवी का दर्शन करना आसान हो जायेगा. इस ट्रेन से लखनऊ,गोरखपुर व छपरा जाने वालों यात्रियों को भी सहूलियत होगी. उन्होंने कहा कि इस ट्रेन का परिचालन शुरू करवाने के लिए वे काफी दिनों से प्रयासरत थे. आज उनका सपना पूरा हो गया.

It seems the children of Kozhikode were eagerly waiting for the Science Express this time too. Thousands of students visited the biodiversity special Science Express at the Platform II of Kozhikode Railway station on its first day of visit.The Science Express, that began its journey in 2007 has been to Kozhikode five times in the previous years and has covered 92,000 kms so far. It has earned its name as the longest exhibition in the country as well as for the maximum number of exhibitions.The Biodiversity special Science Express has 16 air-conditioned coaches with information regarding the 10 biodiversity zones in the country.It aims to create awareness regarding the need to protect the b0iodiversity of the country, to maintain the ecological balance and the danger in climate change.There is also a children’s zone aimed at developing scientific temperament among children.There are working and still models describing the climatic changes, energy conservation, waste management, water conservation, mathematics and so on and descriptions on various aspects of the biodiversity zones like the Gangetic plain, North East India, Coastal area, Desert, Western Ghats, Himalayas, Deccan Peninsula and Islands. Information on various herbal medicines, mammals, national parks, vegetables and fruits has been provided at different parts of the train.

The exhibition was inaugurated by M. K. Raghavan, MP, at Kozhikode Railway Station while District Collector C. A. Latha presided over the function.

ADRM of Palakkad Railway Division, Mohan A. Menon was the chief guest on the occasion.

An on-the-spot competition to identify scientist by students of Sreeramakrishna Higher Secondary School and scientific magic by experts from the Regional Science Centre held at the platform after the inaugural function attracted a large audience.

The exhibition will go on till August 27.

The biodiversity edition of the Science Express was flagged off in Delhi on April 9. In 204 days, it would visit 62 locations and conclude at Gandhinagar on October 28.
