As announced in last Railway Budget for running of weekly Super Fast Express trains towards New Delhi and Tirupati from Bhubaneswar, Ministry of Railways has decided to introduce Bhubaneswar-New Delhi-Bhubaneswar super fast via Angul, Sambalpur City and Rourkela from 7th September 2013 and Bhubaneswar-Tirupati-Bhubaneswar super fast express from 14th September 2013.

22805 Bhubaneswar-New Delhi weekly super fast Express will leave Bhubaneswar at 1245hrs on every Saturday w.e.f. 7th September 2013 and will arrive at New Delhi at 2050 hrs on every Sundays. In the return direction, 22806 New Delhi-Bhubaneswar weekly super fast Express will leave New Delhi at 0700 hrs on every Monday w.e.f. 9th September 2013 and will arrive at Bhubaneswar at 1630 hrs on every Tuesday.

This train has one AC First Class, One-AC 2 tier, Four-AC 3 tiers, Eight-Sleeper Classes, Two -Guard cum Luggage Vans and one-Pantry Car in its composition having stoppages at Dhenkanal, Talcher Road, Angul, Rairakhol, Sambalpur City, Jharsuguda, Rourkela, Chakradharpur, Muri, Bokaro Steel City, Gomo, Kodarma, Gaya, Mughalsarai, Allahabad and Kanpur Central between Bhubaneswar and New Delhi.

22879 Bhubaneswar-Tirupati weekly super fast Express will leave Bhubaneswar at 1200 hrs on every Saturday w.e.f. 14th September 2013 and will arrive at Tirupati at 0925 hrs on every Sundays. In the return direction, 22880 Tirupati-Bhubaneswar weekly super fast Express will leave Tirupati at 1245 hrs on every Sunday w.e.f. 15th September 2013 and will arrive at Bhubaneswar at 1010 hrs on every Monday.

This train has One-AC 2 tier, Three-AC 3 tiers, Eleven-Sleeper Classes, Four General Second Class coaches, Two-Guard cum Luggage Vans and one-Pantry Car in its composition having stoppages at Khurda Road, Balugaon, Chatrapur, Brahmapur, Ichhapuram, Srikakulam Road, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Duvvada, Samalkot, Rajahmundry, Eluru, Vijayawada, o­ngole, Nellore, Gudur and Renigunta between Bhubaneswar and Tirupati.

GUWAHATI: Fears of fresh unrest over statehood demands in Assam resurfaced after the Centre informed the Lok Sabha on Wednesday that it has no plans to create any more new states in the country. Ethnic groups seeking separate states are now skeptical about the objective of the tripartite talks for which they have been invited by the Centre to New Delhi next month.The All Koch Rajbongshi Students' Union (AKRSU), which is leading the demand for a separate state of Kamatapur for the Koch-Rajbongshi community, has threatened to call off talks if the first round scheduled on September 3 does not turn out to be encouraging. The All Bodo Students' Union, on the other hand, which is demanding a separate state of Bodoland, has also threatened to review its decision to suspend the 24-hour rail blockade it had called on September 10 after the tripartite talks to be held on September 4.The AKRSU now wants the Centre to apprise both the houses of Parliament about the objective of the tripartite talks with the statehood seeking groups from the state. "This is a double-speak by the Centre. If the Centre has no plans to create any new states, then what is the objective of the tripartite talks it plans to hold with us on September 3. Under the circumstances, it is meaningless to hold talks ," AKRSU president Biswajit Ray said.

He added, "We suspect that this is a conspiracy by the Centre to restrain us from launching any agitation in support of our demand. We do not want to hold talks just for the sake of discussion. In the first round itself, we will figure out the Centre's vibes, and, if they are not positive, there would be no reason for us to continue with the dialogue," Ray said.

The Absu leadership held a meeting with other Bodo groups on the issue of tripartite talks on statehood. "Absu, in response to the invitation for talks, had withdrawn its 24-hour highway blockade, which was scheduled to be held on August 28. However, we will have to rethink our decision to suspend the 24-hour rail blockade on September 10 after the talks," Absu president Pramod Boro said.

An undertrial prisoner, who was being brought from Thrissur in Kerala to here, managed to escape from police custody at Udupi Railway Station on Wednesday.According to the Manipal police, two policemen from Kerala were escorting Nagaraj Balegar when he forcibly freed himself and escaped near Budnar Railway Guest House around 9.20 a.m. Nagaraj was to be produced in a court here for a house breaking and a theft case.Abdul Salim K.A. and Ancil brought Nagaraj from the Thrissur Central Jail to Udupi by train.They reached Udupi at 12.30 a.m. on Wednesday.They took rest at the railway station platform. When they were preparing to take Nagaraj to the city in the morning, he escaped.A case had been registered at the Manipal police station.A police officer said whether Nagaraj was handcuffed or not would be revealed only after investigation.“Now, we are going by what the Kerala policemen have said,” he said.Nagaraj is wanted in several cases in Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.He was allegedly involved in the murder of Vinod Shettigar, another offender, at the District Sub-Jail at Anjar village, about 15 km from Udupi, in 2011. Nagaraj hails from Sagar in Shimoga district.Sadananda Thippannanavar, Inspector at Manipal police station, said Nagaraj was under judicial custody for a theft case in Thrissur. Nagaraj had earlier escaped from police custody at Rannebennur in Haveri district about four to five months ago.

He was later arrested in Kerala.

Superintendent of Police M.B. Boralingaiah said the details about Nagaraj had been passed on to police stations in the district and neighbouring districts.

“We have intensified checking in the border areas,” he said.

Nod for SAIL proposal for joint venture with Railways

M.B. Rajesh, MP, has said that a delegation of MPs from Kerala will meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh soon to seek approval for the proposal of the Steel Authority of India (SAIL) for a joint venture with Railways to set up a rail coach factory at Kanjikode for which the foundation stone was laid in February last year.In a statement here, he said that Union Ministers from Kerala will also be approached to take up the matter with the Prime Minister for the speedy sanction of the SAIL proposal.Mr. Rajesh said that though the then Union Railway Minister Pavan Kumar Bansal had assured Parliament in April this year that the SAIL proposal for a joint venture will be considered, the new Railway Minister Mallikarjun Kharge told Parliament on Tuesday that the Planning Commission will not approve this proposal as it had given sanction for a Public Private Participation (PPP) project earlier.Mr. Rajesh said that even after one-and-a-half years of the foundation stone laid for the coach factory no private partner came forward for the joint venture.The SAIL proposal is most attractive for Railways because its investment will be only 26 per cent of the total project cost of Rs.550 crore.In this, if the share of the land value already paid by the Railways is converted as equity the future investment will be only a few crores of rupees for Railways.The SAIL had also offered to take more percentage of equity if required.

It had offered to start production in 18 months once the final approval was given by the government as against the four-year project period under PPP.

Mr. Rajesh said that the SAIL chairman C.S. Varma had sent the proposal to the Railway Board chairman on April 22, 2013 to manufacture world class passenger wagons. Already the SAIL is having two major joint venture projects with Railways at Kutli and Nellingam.

Concept paper

The SAIL had also submitted a detailed concept paper for the project to manufacture Link Hoffman Busch passenger coaches using both steel and aluminium. The SAIL offer should be approved by the government, Mr. Rajesh said.

Two new trains are likely to be started from Bhubaneswar from September, said East Coast Railway here on Wednesday. The trains are to be introduced include Bhubaneswar-New Delhi-Bhubaneswar superfast via Angul, Sambalpur City and Rourkela (September 7) and Bhubaneswar-Tirupati-Bhubaneswar superfast express (September 14).

In its commitment to provide hygienic environment to passengers, Indian Railways at present is running 1400 coaches with 3800 bio-toilets in various trains. In the first four months of the current year, Indian Railways have fitted more bio-toilets on coaches than the entire number of bio-toilets fitted in the past three years. In the first four months of the current financial year i.e. from April’13 to July’13 the number of bio-toilets fitted in passenger coaches were 2285 in comparison to 1337 bio-toilets fitted in 2012-13, 169 in 2011-12 and 57 in the year 2010-11. The first train, Gwalior-Varanasi Bundelkhand Express, fitted with bio-toilets is running since January 2011. After receiving encouraging feedback from the users and railway maintenance staff, the pace of fitment of these bio-toilets in Indian Railways passenger coaches has been ramped up. In its endeavour to take all necessary steps to keep station premises clean, Indian Railways is now manufacturing all new conventional passenger coaches fitted with bio-toilets.

These bio-toilets are fitted below the coach floor underneath the lavatories and the human waste discharged into them is acted upon by a colony of anaerobic bacteria that convert human waste mainly into water and small amount of gases (methane and CO2). The gases escape into atmosphere and waste is discharged after chlorination onto the track. Human waste thus does not fall on the railway track. This is environmentally friendly and also improves the working condition for the railway track staff.

Indian Railways seek cooperation of their valued customers for success of this project as throwing of items like plastic bottles, paper cups, cloth rags, sanitary napkin, nappies, plastic/poly bags, ‘Gutka’ pouches etc causes choking of these toilets and makes the toilet non functional. Passengers’ cooperation is of paramount importance for the success of these bio-toilets.

This environment friendly, low cost and robust technology has been developed jointly by Indian Railways and Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) for railway passenger coaches and is the first of its kind in Railway Systems in the world. One particular type of bacteria which is used in this design of bio-toilet has been carefully collected and analysed by DRDO from Antarctica and the efficiency of this system has been tested by DRDO in extreme climates and conditions like those at Siachen Glacier. The anaerobic bacteria in the bio-designer not only survive extreme cold and heat but also survives when subjected to commonly available disinfectants.

The fitment of such bio-toilets in coaches is, however, technologically very challenging because it requires special technique of wielding to ensure that safety of the coach is not compromised in any way.

Mumbai:  A 40-year-old MBA graduate, whose idea of fun is making hoax bomb threat calls to the Mumbai railway police helpline, has landed in trouble.

In the past week, Dhanwin Ramlal Barot, a resident of Tilak Nagar in Chembur working in a textile firm, made four such calls to the helpline number.  Explaining his modus operandi, Shivaji Dhumal, senior inspector of Kurla GRP police station said that Barot would make the calls to the number (9833331111) from a particular public phone booth located at Sable Nagar, near Tilak Nagar.

Every time he called, he either told the telephone operator that there was a bomb planted at the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) in Kurla.

On receiving the information, the helpline personnel would pass the message on to the Kurla GRP police station, who would conduct a search of the entire area with the help of Bomb Detection & Disposal Squad and Anti-Terrorism Squad personnel.

“The Kurla GRP had received four such calls since August 19,” said Dhumal.  During investigations, they found that it was Barot making the prank calls.

On Monday, the police team, with the help of the PCO operator, laid a trap at the PCO and nabbed Barot while he was making another hoax call.

Dhumal said, “Barot has been booked under sections 177 (furnishing false information), 182 (false information with intent to cause public servant to used his lawful power to inquiry of another person) and 505 (i) (b) (with intent to cause or which is likely to cause, fear or alarm to the public) of the IPC.”

The PCO operator confirmed that Barot had made the previous hoax calls. Barot was subsequently remanded in judicial custody by the court on Tuesday.
