Shri Mallikarjun Kharge, Hon’ble Minister for Railways flagged off a new          Train No. 16572 Bidar-Yesvantpur Express (Tri-weekly) at a function held at Bidar Railway Station today ie.,  1st September, 2013. Dr. N. Dharam Singh, Hon’ble Ex. Chief Minister of Karnataka & Member of Parliament; Smt. Umashree, Hon’ble Minister for Women and Child Development, Kannada and Cultural Department and District Incharge Minster and a host of other ministers, MLAs, MLCs, other public representatives, dignitaries and senior Railway officials were present o­n the occasion.

Addressing a huge gathering o­n the occasion, Shri Mallikarjun Kharge, Hon’ble Minister for Railways stated that this new train is a very essential link between north Karnataka region and capital city of Karnataka. It was introduced by according top priority as it would provide a comfortable travelling facility for the people of north Karnataka towards Bangalore. He said, Indian Railways is committed to develop Railway infrastructure across various regions of the country to meet public demands. He also said that the sanctioned Railway projects in Karnataka will be given due priority for their early completion, with the active co-operation / cost sharing from the Government of Karnataka, including Bidar-Gulbarga new railway line project.

Shri Dharam Singh in his address said that Shri Mallikarjun Kharge’s initiative to provide much awaited overnight train service to Bangalore is highly appreciative. He also said that it was a long cherished dream of Bidar region, as at present there is no convenient train to Bangalore. Earlier Shri A.K. Mital, General Manager, South Central Railway welcomed the gathering and detailed o­n developmental works taken up by SCR. Shri S.K.Mishra, Divisional Railway Manager, Secunderabad Division proposed vote of thanks.



On its regular run, Train No.16572 Bidar-Yesvantpur Tri-weekly Express will depart Bidar at 18:25 hrs o­n  Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and arrive Yesvanatpur  at 07:40 hrs o­n the next day. In the return direction, Train No. 16571 Yesvantpur-Bidar Tri-weekly Express will depart at Yesvantur at 19:15 hrs  o­n Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays and arrive Bidar at 09:30 hrs o­n the next day.


The composition of the train : o­ne AC III tier; o­ne AC II tier; o­ne AC First cum III tier; five General Second Class;  six  Sleeper Class and two Second Class Luggage cum Brake Van coaches, totaling to 16 Coaches. Enroute, this  train will stop at Zaheerabad, Vikarabad, Seram, Malkhaid Road, Chittapur, Nalwar, Yadgir, Narayanpet Road, Raichur, Mantralayam Road, Guntakal, Dharmavarm, Hindupur, Gauribidanur and Yelahanka stations.

Railways will operate an Onam special train between Nagercoil and Mangalore Junction. A press release said here on Saturday that the train no. 06304 Nagercoil-Mangalore Junction special will leave Nagercoil at 8.35 pm on September 11 and 18, and reach Mangalore Junction at11.20 am the next day.In the return direction, the train no. 06303 Mangalore Junction-Nagercoil special will leave Mangalore Junction at 2.40 pm on September 12 and 19, and reach Nagercoil at 4.15 am the next day. The composition of the trains will be one AC 2-tier, three AC 3-tier, eight sleeper class, four general second class and two luggage-cum-brake van coaches.

Ahead of the 2014 polls, the UPA government is moving ahead with another big-ticket rail project: A rail coach factory at Pallakad in Kerala.

“The request for qualification (RFQ) for the R600-crore project will shortly be invited. We also expect to begin the process of shortlisting the bidders within this fiscal,” Railway Board chairman (CRB) Arunendra Kumar told HT.

The Pallakad factory has long been mired in political controversies despite the Kerala government — nearly four years ago — having offered land free of cost to set up the factory.

“All the issues have been sorted. An inter-ministerial group comprising officers of the ministries of finance, law and railways – as well as the planning commission – approved the draft RFQ for the project earlier this week,” Kumar said.

The factory, to be set up in three years, will have a capacity to manufacture 400 state-of-the-art aluminium coaches annually. It is planned as a joint venture with the railways contributing 26% of the equity.

The LDF government led by VS Achutanandan had acquired 430 acres for the project in 2009, which it had offered to the railways — provided the facility was built as a public fund and not as a PPP project.

As the railways plans to build the factory under the PPP mode, it has now purchased 239 acres from the Kerala government. “The state government had initially offered 430 acres free of charge,” Pallakad MP MB Rajesh said.

AIADMK, DMK cadre throng function, claim credit for its introduction

The new Thanjavur-Chennai Egmore Uzhavan Express was flagged off from Thanjavur Railway Junction on Sunday.High drama prevailed during the flag-off ceremony as cadre of the AIADMK and the DMK turned up in large numbers at the railway junction. The cadre, carrying their respective party flags, raised slogans to claim credit for the introduction of the new train.As R. Vaithilingam, Housing and Urban Development Minister, reached the stage, the AIADMK cadre surged forward and some climbed over the loco. Some cadre of the DMK too followed suit. The AIADMK cadre even put a picture of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in front of the loco. Soon Mr. Palanimanickam came to the stage and the train left at the scheduled time.The train that fulfils the long-pending demand of the people of Thanjavur for a direct night train chugged out of the junction at 8.45 p.m. The train will reach Chennai Egmore at 4.55 a.m. on Monday. “The train is running full with 750 reservations,” said railway officials. The train has 17 coaches out of which nine are sleeper class, one AC two tier, one AC three tier, four general second class, and two second class-cum-luggage.The train will stop at Papanasam, Kumbakonam, Aduthurai, Kuttalam, Mayiladuthurai, Sirkali, Chidambaram, Cuddalore Fort Junction, Panruti, Villupuram, Tindivanam, Melmaruvathur, Chingleput, Tambaram, and Mambalam. R. Vaithilingam, Minister for Housing and Urban Development, S.S.Palani Manickam, Thanjavur MP, and Manjula Rangarajan, Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchi, participated in the function.

V.Jeevakumar, adviser to Train Passengers Association of Thanjavur to Tiruchi, said that the train would be of much use to the people of Thanjavur. “It has been rightly named - Uzhavan Express - signifying the importance of the Cauvery delta and its farmers,” Mr. Jeevakumar said.

DMK worker dies

Raja (38), a DMK cadre from Keelavasal here, died after he fell off the loco of Thanjavur-Chennai Egmore Uzhavan Express that was flagged off from here. Raja was one among the party cadre who climbed up the loco with party flags. He fell off the loco and suffered injuries. Later, he died.

MUMBAI: Wildlife activists said the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) project, which received clearance from the apex court last week, should not "disrupt movement of animals" in sanctuaries.Campaigners feel that the railway network, which will cut through Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) and Tungareshwar sanctuary, may endanger natural habitat. They said the planners of the Rs 26,000-crore project should also "disrupt movement of animals" andenvisage construction of underpasses or bridges. "The forest passageway is important as it facilitates movement of animals, including leopards between the two sanctuaries. Officials should ensure that their movement is not affected," said a wildlife expert."The project has to take into consideration that animals use that corridor for migration. It could disturb the area connecting SGNP and Tungareshwar sanctuary," said Vidya Athreya, researcher at Centre for Wildlife Studies and Wildlife Conservation Society. "The project should have underpasses or over bridges so that animals can keep using their route. There ought to be a study on the use and how a way can be made without disturbing the balance of the forest," she added.

Another wildlife expert said that since the corridor will pass through Tungareshwar (between Vasai and Diva stations) the introduction of railway could scare away the animals.

" The corridor has to take into consideration that animals use the area for migration. It could disturb the stretch connecting SGNP and Tungareshwar sanctuary," said Vidya Athreya, researcher at Centre for Wildlife Studies and Wildlife Conservation Society. "The project's planners need to take maximum precaution while laying the new tracks in forest areas without disturbing its balance," she added.

A government official allayed concern about environmental problems. Said an official, "There will be no environmental problems. The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL), a public sector undertaking under Railway ministry, shall provide underpasses for free movement of wild animals, chain link fencing for protection, and as a contribution towards the environment and wildlife protection, funds for the upkeep and improvement of SGNP apart from compensatory afforestation in the region."

The multi-crore WDFC project last week got a green nod from the Supreme court hearing the case under Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

Decks are being cleared for phase II of the project from Vadodara (Gujarat) to JNPT. "The project's success depends on its connectivity to the nation's busiest port, we will ensure that key clearances are in place for its execution," said an official.

"The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (a PSUpublic sector undertaking under the railways ministry) has made efforts for minimum disturbance to the ecologically and environmentally sensitive areas by making detours as much as possible. It has resolved to protect the environment and its surroundings around the railway network," said a senior government official.

During the process of receiving the final nod from the Supreme Court, planners approached all the authorities and got with a resolve for full commitment to the protection of natural resources, thereby getting
permission from the office of principle chief conservator of forests, Maharashtra, the State Board of Wildlife (SBWL) and followed by clearance from the National Board of Wildlife.

They have incorporated all the stipulations suggesting measures to minimize threat and disturbance to wildlife before submitting the application to the Central Empowered Committee (CEC), constituted by the Supreme Court, a source said.

The CEC had recommended the proposal of freight corridor to pass through the national park after conducting a detailed inspection of the site with the project's planners and state forest officials.

Prolonged struggle and persistent demands of city residents for restoring Rockfort Express to Tiruchi finally bore fruit when the train restarted its operation from here on Sunday night. Ever since the train originally introduced in the Tiruchi–Chennai chord line section was extended to Thanjavur at first and later to Kumbakonam some years ago, Tiruchiites had been fighting hard for its operation from Tiruchi - true to its name ‘Rockfort’.

They expressed their displeasure over the extension of this popular night train which had been running with packed capacity by resorting to agitations and shooting off memorandums to the railway administration at regular intervals. The extension, however, proved beneficial to travellers from Kumbakonam and Thanjavur for whom the express train was a convenient service at night. Tiruchi-based consumer and other organisations joined hands and formed a committee to retrieve Rockfort Express. Finally, the Railways announced the termination of Rockfort Express in Tiruchi and the operation of a new train from Thanjavur to Chennai.

However, the suspense over the exact date of operation of the new train caused concern among travellers from Kumbakonam and Thanjavur who wanted the termination of Rockfort Express in Tiruchi to be done only after introducing the Thanjavur–Chennai night train. Their anxiety came to an end a few days ago when the Railways announced that the Thanjavur–Chennai express would start operating from September 1 and that Rockfort Express would terminate in Tiruchi.

मंदारहिल-हंसडीहा रेलखंड पर कुमराडोल व पांडेय टोला के बीच डाढ़े हाल्ट का निर्माण होगा. इस पर 25 लाख रुपये की लागत आयेगी. यह राशि गोड्डा के सांसद निशिकांत दुबे अपने कोष से दे रहे हैं. सब कुछ ठीक-ठाक रहा तो निर्माण कार्य को लेकर सात सितंबर से फाउंडेशन का काम शुरू होगा और ढाई माह में हॉल्ट बन कर तैयार भी हो जायेगा. उक्त बातें डीआरएम रवींद्र कुमार गुप्ता ने स्थल निरीक्षण (डाढ़े हाल्ट के लिए) कर भागलपुर लौटने के बाद कही. उन्होंने बताया कि रेल नक्शा में इस हॉल्ट का निर्माण 60.4 किमी पर होना है, जो लोकेशन नहीं मिल रहा था. इसके लिए निरीक्षण करना अति आवश्यक मान कर पहुंचे और निर्णय लिया है कि 60.24-60.27 किमी के बीच हॉल्ट का निर्माण कराया जाये. रेलवे स्टेशन से बजरंग बली की प्रतिमा दूसरी जगह शिफ्ट करने की बात कही.
