The rail board has proposed Rs. 3,280 crore strategic rail line plan to built 181 km broad gauge electric traction rail line on Pathankot-Baijnath-Jogindernagar which is to be extended to Ladakh later. This was disclosed by the Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh while replying to a query of Yadvinder Goma member of Congress from Jaysingpur of Kangra district. He said that board also proposed Rs. 2,888 crore on the same line on diesel traction. The union government was insisting upon the state to bear 33 percent of above proposed budget, however, state had offered free land for this railway project. Keeping the limited economic resources of the state and national importance of this railway project in mind, Himachal has been taken up this matter with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh twice in January and February 2013 as state had asked the center to bear the entire expense. Mr. Singh denied that state had no plant to link Jogindernagar-Mandi and Bilaspur with railway line.

MARGAO: The Konkan Railway police on Sunday seized 488 helmets which were brought to the state on Goa Sampark Kranti Express for being sold illegally. The helmets didn't bear the mandatory ISI mark and had been transported by railway without proper billing, police sources said.

PSI Dattaguru Sawant of the Konkan Railway police said that a decoy customer, who was sent to inquire about the helmets on platform 3 of the Margao railway station, confirmed that the headgears were meant for sale. The Konkan Railway police then swung into action and seized the helmets, all worth 1.95 lakh, Sawant said.

Samsher Alam and Mohammed Ibrahim, both residents of Azadnagar, Margao, were arrested .

पुणे - पुणे रेल्वे स्थानकालगत सुमारे सहा हजार चौरस मीटरचा वाहनतळ साकारला असून येत्या पंधरा दिवसांत तो प्रवाशांच्या वाहनांसाठी 24 तास उपलब्ध होणार आहे.

पुणे रेल्वे स्थानकाच्या आवारात व लगत सध्या दोन वाहनतळ आहेत; परंतु त्यांचा आकार लहान आहे. ते सदैव भरलेले असतात. त्यामुळे प्रवाशांची गैरसोय होते. शिवाय दोन्ही वाहनतळांच्या दर आकारणीबाबतही प्रवाशांच्या तक्रारी आहेत. या पार्श्‍वभूमीवर मालधक्का चौकाकडे जाणाऱ्या रस्त्यावर रेल्वे रुग्णालयाजवळ नवा वाहनतळ उभारण्यात येत आहे. सुमारे सहा हजार चौरस मीटरचा तो आहे. एसटी स्थानकाजवळूनही प्रवाशांना तेथे जाता येईल. त्या वाहनतळाचे कंत्राट देण्यासाठी निविदा प्रसिद्ध करण्यात आल्या होत्या. त्या नुसार एका ठेकेदाराला तो चालविण्यासाठी देण्यात आला आहे. वाहनतळाच्या भूखंडाचे सध्या सपाटीकरणाचे काम पूर्ण झाले आहे. वीज व छोटे कार्यालय उभारण्याचे काम सुरू असून, येत्या पंधरा दिवसांत वाहनतळ प्रवाशांसाठी उपलब्ध होईल, असे मध्य रेल्वेच्या अधिकाऱ्यांनी स्पष्ट केले.

दुचाकी वाहनांसाठी दोन रुपये प्रतितास शुल्क असेल. 18 तासांहून अधिक वेळेसाठी वेगळा दर आकारण्यात येणार आहे, तर चार चाकी वाहनांसाठी चार तासांसाठी दहा रुपये शुल्क असेल. शुल्काची माहिती प्रवाशांना व्हावी, या साठी संबंधित कंत्राटदाराला दोन पाट्या लावण्याचा आदेश रेल्वे प्रशासनाने दिला आहे. या वाहनतळावर तसेच रेल्वे स्थानकाच्या आवारातील व लगतच्या वाहनतळावर ठरवून दिलेल्या दरापेक्षा प्रवाशांकडून अधिक शुल्क आकारल्यास प्रवाशांनी लेखी तक्रार विभागीय रेल्वे व्यवस्थापक कार्यालयात करावी, त्यानुसार संबंधित कंत्राटदारावर कारवाई करण्यात येईल, असे प्रशासनाने स्पष्ट केले आहे.

स्थानकातील वाहतूक योजनेत बदल होणार
पुणे रेल्वे स्थानकाच्या आवारात वाहनतळामुळे तसेच प्रवाशांना सोडण्यासाठी येणाऱ्या वाहनांमुळे वारंवार वाहतुकीची कोंडी होत असल्याचे चित्र आहे. त्यातच पोलिस व लष्कराशी संबंधित वाहनेही बेशिस्तपणे उभी राहत आहेत. या पार्श्‍वभूमीवर स्थानकातील वाहतूक व्यवस्थेचा चेहरामोहराच बदलेल असा आराखडा मध्य रेल्वे प्रशासन सध्या करीत आहे. लवकरच त्याची अंमलबजावणी होणार असल्याचे प्रशासकीय सूत्रांनी सांगितले. दरम्यान स्थानकाच्या प्रवेशद्वाराजवळील रस्त्यावर थांबणाऱ्या बेशिस्त वाहनांमुळे परिसरात कोंडी होत आहे. त्यामुळे त्यांच्यावर कारवाई करावी, अशी मागणी वाहतूक पोलिसांकडे करण्यात आल्याचेही सूत्रांनी स्पष्ट केले.

Palakkad: Ahead of the 2014 polls, the UPA government is moving ahead with another big-ticket rail project: A rail coach factory at Palakkad in Kerala.

“The request for qualification (RFQ) for the Rs.600 crore project will shortly be invited. We also expect to begin the process of shortlisting the bidders within this fiscal,” Railway Board chairman (CRB) Arunendra Kumar told.

The Pallakad factory has long been mired in political controversies despite the Kerala government — nearly four years ago — having offered land free of cost to set up the factory.

“All the issues have been sorted. An inter-ministerial group comprising officers of the ministries of finance, law and railways – as well as the planning commission – approved the draft RFQ for the project earlier this week,” Kumar said.

The factory, to be set up in three years, will have a capacity to manufacture 400 state-of-the-art aluminium coaches annually. It is planned as a joint venture with the railways contributing 26% of the equity.

The LDF government led by VS Achutanandan had acquired 430 acres for the project in 2009, which it had offered to the railways — provided the facility was built as a public fund and not as a PPP project.

As the railways plans to build the factory under the PPP mode, it has now purchased 239 acres from the Kerala government. “The state government had initially offered 430 acres free of charge,” Pallakad MP MB Rajesh said.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Government has granted sanction to construct a railway overbridge near Erode Station at a cost of Rs.40.16 crore. Since the Railways has expressed its inability to construct a new bridge to replace the existing one, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has sanctioned the construction of overbridge with State Government funds as it would connect traffic from Tiruchengode and Pallipalayam to Salem, Namakkal and Erode districts, an official release said. The railway overbridge would come up between Sankari Durg and Erode railway stations.The Chief Minister has also granted the Government’s administrative approval for constructing bridges in Thanjavur district at a total cost of Rs.36 crore, it said. Administrative approvals have been given for constructing a bridge between Thanjavur Town and Alakudi railway stations at Rs 29 crore and another bridge across Keezh Vennaru river at a cost of Rs seven crore, it added.

Namakkal-based Makkal Sakthi Iyakkam (People’s Power Movement) has urged railway officials in the Salem Divisional office, Southern Railways, Railway Minister, Members of the Legislative Assemblies and Members of the Parliament in this region to provide various basic amenities to benefit passengers who make use of the Namakkal Railway Station.

District secretary of the Iyakkam, Kaliannan Perumal, alleged that the lethargic attitude of railway officials here by not providing necessary facilities and failing to fulfil their assurances to the people has tarnished the image of the department.

He cited the delay in diverting a number of express trains on the Salem to Karur route (through Namakkal) several months after announcement of the same has disappointed commuters of this district. While passenger train service alone is operated on the route commuters are hit by lack of a link road to the railway station”, he said.

Mr. Kaliannan added that lack of bus service to the railway station has forced people to undergo difficulty in crossing the bumpy mud road to reach the railway station.

The movement has also sought extension of the functioning time of the railway reservation counter on the Mohanur Road, in Namakkal town, by seven hours (from the present 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.) till 8 p.m.

जंक्शन मुख्यालय पर काम करने वाले रेल ड्राइवर डब्ल्यू ए एंडरसन के सेवानिवृत्त होने पर लोको पायलटों ने एक कार्यक्रम का आयोजन किया। इसमें उन्हें भावभीनी विदाई दी गई। चीफ क्रू कंट्रोलर एसएस मिश्रा ने कहा कि ट्रेन को चलाना जिम्मेदारी भरा काम होता है। एक ड्राइवर के जिम्मे हजारों की जान रहती है। उसकी एक चूक से कई जिंदगियां मौत के मुंह में जा सकती हैं। ऐसे में बिना किसी चूक के अपना कार्यकाल पूरा करना बड़ा कार्य है। एंडरसन हमेशा समय के पाबंद रहे। कार्यक्रम में उन्हें प्रतीक चिन्ह देकर सम्मानित किया गया। इस मौके पर क्रू कंट्रोलर एसडी मिश्रा, आशीष, आरसी मिश्रा, अशोक श्रीवास्तव, रिटायर्ड ड्राइवर नारायण सिंह आदि मौजूद रहे।

PIMPRI: Commuters who travel daily to Mumbai from Chinchwad have demanded that the Sinhgad Express should have an additional coach while the Deccan Queen should halt at Chinchwad station.
Nikhil Mahajan, who travels daily to Mumbai by the Sinhgad Express said, “The number of commuters who travel daily to Mumbai from Chinchwad has risen. Sinhgad Express is a convenient train for the people who travel daily to Mumbai.
The train has a reserved coach, half of which is available from Pimpri and the remaining half from Chinchwad. General commuters can’t travel in this reserved coach. The people who travel with a general ticket cannot get space on the train as the general coach is already occupied from Pune.
Another commuter Mahesh Jarad said that Deccan Queen and Pragati Expressed leave after Sinhgad express. But both trains do not halt at Pimpri and Chinchwad.
If these trains halt at Chinchwad, crowding on the Sinhgad Express can be avoided. The Sinhgad Express that leaves from Mumbai at 2:30 pm, reaches Pune at 6:00 pm. After this there is no train from Mumbai that stops in Chinchwad. Pragati and Deccan Queen leave Mumbai at 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm respectively. These trains are of no use of the commuters whose working hours continue till 6:30 pm .
Ranjit Bhosale said, “Latur, Chalukya, Husainsagar or Siddheshwar express that leave Mumbai in the evening should halt at Chinchwad. Commuters should get space these trains. These trains are allowed to cross trains at Talegaon or Malavali hence people boarding a Chinchwad bound train reached their homes late.”
“There is huge rush to board the train as space is limited, Due to this rush, accidents have taken place frequently. To seek respite commuters are going to submit memorandum to the railway administration,” informed Shailendra Chitnis and Milind Khairnar.
