Traffic on Mysore-Nanjangud railway line came to a standstill for more than one hour due to a protest against an accident which claimed the legs of a woman who fell under a train.Rathnamma (59), a native of Thandavapura, suffered grievous injuries and was shifted to K R Hospital.She had come to her daughter’s house in Badanaval  village and was at the railway station to board a train to Chamarajnagar when she lost balance, slipped and fell under the Chamarajnagar-Mysore passenger train. She lost both her legs though passengers tried to pull the emergency chain to stop the moving train.Enraged, villagers and passengers accused the driver and staff of callousness and sat on the track in protest, blocking traffic for more than 90 minutes. They also demanded compensation for her from the Railways.The Railway police refused to accept their complaint. The train was finally allowed to leave at 3.10 pm.

Dehradun:
An alignment survey for the Rishikesh-Karnprayag railway project has been completed.The details about the project were provided by Managing Director, Rail Development Nigam Limited, Satish Agnihotri, to Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna at a meeting held at the Secretariat here today.Agnihotri said the survey for the alignment had been completed. He said out of the 127-km project, 80 per cent of it would pass through tunnels.A total of 11 stations had been identified, which are Virbhadra (New Rishikesh), Shivpuri, Vyasi, Devprayag, Maletha, Srinagar, Dhari, Rudraprayag, Dholteer, Gauchar and Karnprayag.The Chief Minister said this project would benefit the economy of the state and encourage tourism.He said the state government was ready to extend all required help and the land acquisition officer for the project had also been appointed. The CM asked Rail Development Nigam Limited to solve all environment-related issues with the Forest Department.Agnihotri said high-level technology like high resolution satellite imagery was used while working on the alignment project and the help of experts from IIT, Roorkee, and other scientific institutions was also taken.Cabinet ministers Harak Singh Rawat, Amrita Rawat, Additional Chief Secretary Rakesh Sharma, Principal Secretaries SS Sandhu, S Ramaswamy, Secretaries Umakant Panwar, Bhaskaranand and other officials were present at the meeting.

HUBLI: Hubli-Dharwad region is emerging as small and medium industries hub with more than a lakh small and medium industries, said B P Shashidhar, president of Karnataka Small Scale Industries Association (Kassia), Bangalore.He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating the Vender Development and Symposium which was organized as part of the Incomex-2013, mega industrial exhibition, in Hubli on Saturday.Incomex-2013 has been organized by the Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), and district administration in association with other organizations, at Hubli-Dharwad Multipurpose Exhibition Centre in the APMC yard.Shashidhar felt that small and medium industries in the region have developed a lot compared to the last few years in the region, and a lot of potential is seen. Entrepreneurs in the region are exporting goods to all over the country and even outside.Public sector unit (PSU) should look into this region and should tie up with local entrepreneurs to supply products. And PSU should purchase about 30 per cent goods from small and medium entrepreneurs, he added.Speaking on the occasion, Vikram Sirur, managing director, Miven Mayfran Conveyors Private Limited, said manufacturing sector in the north Karnataka region needs to improve, and that big manufactures are not getting adequate goods from the region.

Further, he said venders should give first preference to quality, reasonable price, and should deliver the products on time to buyers to get good response from big players. Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and states in North India are far ahead from north Karnataka in automobile sectors because of proper supply of basic goods by venders and not because of government policy.

S K Koushik, senior technical officer at the South Western Railway, assured the full support of SWR to new and budding venders from the region to buy required products from them. "SWR is purchasing about Rs 300 crore materials from outsiders, but if they get good materials from this region's venders, they will be given preference."

South East Central Railway (SECR) changes platform numbers at Gondia railway station. From Thursday, platform number 3 will become platform number 7. Earlier, this platform was rechristined as platform number 4A.

Ambala: Union minister and MP from Ambala Kumari Selja has flagged off the Ambala-Delhi Express via Saharanpur and Meerut at the Ambala Cantt railway station today. Selja also travelled in this train up to the Jagadhari workshop railway station. Divisional Railway Manager A K Khatpal, senior DCM Gulshan Kumar and Deputy Commissioner KM Pandurang were also present.Selja said the people of Ambala, Barara, Jagadhari and Yamunanagar had been demanding the train. Earlier, the train was to be launched on August 9 but due to some changes in timing schedule, it was delayed.She said the Centre and state government had started the acquisition of land for Naraingarh-Chandigarh rail track which would be completed soon. She had requested the Railway Minister to include the NCR region in Ambala railway division while it was existed in the Delhi railway division.According to a railway official, the new train will depart from Ambala Cantt at 5:40 am and reach Delhi at 11:40 am. In return journey, it will depart from Delhi at 13.10 pm and will reach Ambala Cantt at 19:10 pm. It will stop at Barara, Jagadhari workshop, Yamunanagar, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Meerut, Modi Nagar, Ghaziabaad and Shahdara.

Shatabdi halt demanded

Rajya Sabha MP Ishwar Singh disclosed that Selja had written a letter to the Railway Minister for making a halt of newly launched Chandigarh-Delhi Shatabdi and Amritsar-Delhi Shatabdi at Ambala Cantt.Talking to mediapersons here today, he said the trains crossed through a large part of the state territory and the people of the state had the right to avail of at least one stoppage in their territory.

गोरखपुर। रेलवे स्टेशन के यार्ड रिमॉडलिंग का कार्य 26 सितंबर से सात अक्टूबर तक होगा। इस बीच 19 एक्सप्रेस और 38 पैसेंजर ट्रेनें डोमिनगढ़, नकहा और कैंट स्टेशनों पर ही रोक दी जाएगी।
इन स्टेशनों से गोरखपुर तक आने में यात्रियों को काफी मशक्कत करनी होगी क्योंकि रोडवेज प्रशासन ने यहां से बसें चलाने से हाथ खड़े कर दिए हैं, यानी छोटी गाड़ियों से ही सफर करना होगा और गाड़ियों की तादाद भी इतनी कम है कि सभी को मयस्सर नहीं हो पाएंगी।
रेलवे ने डोमिनगढ़, नकहा और कैंट स्टेशन पर एक्सप्रेस ट्रेनों को निरस्त करने का शेड्यूल जारी कर दिया है जबकि नकहा जंगल और कप्तानगंज स्टेशनों से ही सवारी गाड़ियां लौट जाएंगी। छोटे स्टेशनों से यात्रियों को गोरखपुर तक लाने और पहुंचाने के लिए रेलवे प्रशासन ने परिवहन निगम को पत्र लिखकर अनुरोध किया था।
रोडवेज के क्षेत्रीय प्रबंधक अतुल जैन ने यह कहते हुए मना कर दिया कि उन्हीं रूट पर अतिरिक्त बसें चलाई जा सकती हैं जहां बसें पहले से चल रही हैं।

• कैंट स्टेशन से 100 मीटर की दूरी पर ऑटो स्टैंड है जहां से 15 से 20 ऑटो रोजाना चलते हैं।
