The upcoming Indira Gandhi Airport Domestic Terminal 1 (IGD T1 D) station, under Metro Phase-III, will be a passenger's delight, not just for the reduced travel time to the airport but also because of the international feel to the Metro station. The proposed underground station falls on the Janakpuri West-Kalindi Kunj-Botanical Garden corridor. To enhance the aesthetics of the IGD T1D Metro station, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has approved ornate and unique designs for the interior. For the first time, DMRC will be design a station's interiors with bright colours."Since the Metro station will provide connectivity to the airport, we decided to go for distinct and unique designs. The station will be remarkably different from the existing stations" a senior DMRC official said. The station will boast of an interior designed with granite stone, stainless steel finishes, colourful patterns and ceramic tiles. These tiles will add colour to the station, and at the same time, will be easy to maintain. The lighting will also be changed to give the station more life, DMRC said. The station will consist of screen-printed glass panels with stainless steel sandwich panels. The designs will be printed on toughened glass panels, which will be fire-proof and may later be used for advertisements. The artwork will also be laminated for durability, the officials said.DMRC officials said glazed ceramic Jali work will be used to cover utility services such as ancillary buildings, chiller plants and side panels of entry/exit structures. The Jali work will also provide better ventilation. |
