Shimla, June 21 (ANI): In a first of its kind initiative, railway authorities have started solar lighting system in the heritage toy train ferrying passengers in Himachal Pradesh. In 2008, the Kalka Shimla Railway was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List as a part of the World Heritage Site Mountain s of India. The initiative was taken up by the northern railways officials in a bid to provide a clean and pollution free environment to the passengers and tourists and save electricity. Speaking to media persons Divisional Electric Engineer, R.K. Gupta said that the solar panels had lessened the electricity load and was successful in saving the fuel cost as well. |
