Open defecation and the lewd graffiti on walls along with heaps of garbage as train slowly enters into Delhi will soon be a thing of past. Indian Railways is trying take a lesson from ‘green’ south Beijing railway station and is in process of development of green patches surrounding railway stations in Delhi. To give a pleasant look, the vacant rail yards and rail land will be covered with ornamental plants and shrubs. Railway officials say that encroachment of rail land is one of the biggest hurdle in maintaining cleanliness. Railway already began development of green patches sometime ago but failed due to large scale encroachment. Under the flagship of ‘swachch bharat abhiyan’ railway will initiate a major plan and will lease out the development process to private players through contracts. One such contract has already been placed and results will begin to show till April this year. |
