The four-day Second DRM Cup Inter-Departmental Shuttle Badminton Tournament, organised by Railway Institute, was inaugurated on Thursday by Senior Divisional Finance Manager C. Srinivasa Rao, in which 14 departments and institutes from stations of Vijayawada Division are taking part. The event organised to promote sports and games among the employees and officers evoked good response as players from Rajahmundry, Bitragunda, Satyanarayanapuram, Rayanapadu and other places numbering 70 have enrolled their names in two singles and two doubles events. The tournament, conducted in knockout pattern, is being staged on the single court at the Railway Institute which was built in 1973. The court was refurbished for the tournament by South Central Railway Sports Association by spending Rs.1 lakh, said Welfare Officer (Sports) N. Arjuna Rao. Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer K. Nagendra Prasad, Divisional Sports Officer Ramesh Chandra, Senior Divisional Personnel Officer P. Srinivasalu, Divisional Engineer G. Srinivasa Rao, and Railway Institute secretary S. Venkateswara Rao took part in the inaugural function.
