Generic drugs will available at lower prices on Railway station compared to any other medical outlet outside the station. This decision has been conveyed by the government to parliament. Janaushadhi outlets will be opened on railway stations across the nation under Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana. Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemical and Fertilizers launched the campaign to provide generic medicines at affordable prices on railway stations. At present only 22 exclusive chemist stalls and 15 chemist corners are operational on the extensive Indian Railways network. Besides this, 339 miscellaneous articles which includes certain painkillers and common ailments which do not require doctor’s prescription are currently being sold through various stalls on railway stations. |
