An inter-State racket involved in theft of aluminium powder of NALCO from railway wagons was busted in Rayagada district.According to Rayagada Sub-Divisional Police Officer Y. Jagananth Rao, the racket has its links with adjoining Andhra Pradesh. As per initial investigation, the members, who were involved in stealing aluminium powder from railway wagons, were suspected to be sending it to adjoining Andhra Pradesh.The Rayagada district police arrested 15 persons involved in the racket in the wee hours of Saturday. They were nabbed while they were involved in taking away aluminium powder from railway wagons of a goods train that stopped near Lada station at a distance of around eight km from Raygada town. All the 15 persons arrested by the police were from Jamadeipentha village.Police seized 800 bags of aluminium powder which was stolen from the railway wagons. Six-hundred bags of stolen aluminium powder were hidden in bushes near the railway track, while the rest was loaded up on a truck to be transported outside.One truck, a pickup van, a cargo carrying autorickshaw and two motorbikes which were being used for the operation were seized.Mr. Rao said it was suspected that more people were involved in the racket. Investigation is on to track down the receiver of the large quantity of aluminium powder. | ||
