The work on the much-delayed Asilmetta flyover is likely to gain momentum with the Railways giving its nod for taking up work on its site. Municipal Commissioner M.V. Satyanarayana on Friday met Divisional Railway Manager Anil Kumar in his office and requested him to permit taking up work on the Railway land. A GVMC release said the DRM responded favourably and suggested that the work be taken up at night without interrupting the office work during day. The DRM also approved construction of the 3.5-km compound wall from Convent Junction to railway station by the GVMC.However, only after construction of the new compound wall, the old wall should be removed for expanding the road, the DRM said. Of the Rs.10 crore to be paid to the Railways towards compensation, Rs.2 crore had been paid so far.The flyover is scheduled for completion by April. Mr. Satyanarayana told the DRM that the remaining amount, excluding the cost of constructing the compound wall, would also be paid soon. The DRM also agreed to spare site for expanding the South Jail Road from Ambedkar Junction to the railway station. The Commissioner thanked him for the co-operation from the Railways. |
