Steam engine in India are now history but Railway maintain one or two steam engines as they are in huge demand for films. Therefore it can be said filmmakers in our country have kept steam engines alive as they say people are crazy about steam engines. Recently for a Tamil film shoot, filmmakers called a steam engine from Rewari. This made railway to run the engine on Jaisalmer tracks after around 31 years which evoked thousands of people to come to see the sight. In 1993, Indian railways completely stopped steam engines and replaced them with diesel locos. Railway says that this engine was already used in 25 to 30 film shootings apart from special VIP tours. |
