The Union Government on Tuesday approved extension of the Delhi Metro from Mundka to Bahadurgarh in Haryana. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting of Empowered Group of Ministers headed by Union Defence Minister A. K. Antony here.Construction on the 11.182- km-long route would commence later this year. It will be completed by March 2016. The route will have seven stations: Mundka Industrial Area, Ghevra, Tikri Kalan, Tikri Border, Modern Industrial Estate, Bahadurgarh Bus Stand and City Park.The 4.87-km-long segment of the route falling in Haryana will cost Rs.912 crore. The remaining 6.30 km (Delhi segment) route will cost Rs.1079 crore.Of the total cost of the project, the Haryana Government will pay Rs.788 crore and also provide 10 hectares of land to set up a metro depot.More than 96,000 passengers are expected to use the route in 2016. The number of commuters on the route will increase to over 1.48 lakh by 2021.Union Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, Union Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath and Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia were among those present atthe meeting.
