Endangered till a decade ago, the historical Salarjung open well situated near Moula Ali, get a new life thanks too South Central Railway (SCR). SCR has laid down a new policy to prevent depletion of water bodies across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana region. Under the new policy of SCR, a revival program has been initiated to revive such diminishing water bodies.

Salarjung open well was once used by SCR to clean steam engines post independence. In 19th Century, Salarjung well was dug during the regime of Mir Turab Ali Khan and was used as swimming pool.

Similar other water bodies too are dying due to neglect for several years. 

“The open wells are mostly over 150 years old and left unused for around 70 years. We have restored many such historic water bodies in the city,” said an SCR official.
