Union Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath said in New Delhi on Friday that the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has practical difficulties in undertaking the proposed Kochi Metro project. The Union ministers from the state, including A K Antony, Vayalar Ravi and K V Thomas have already sought political will in the issue. However, if A K Antony took the initiative to convene a meeting, the issue could be solved through discussions, Nath said.Meanwhile, the state government is speeding up the Metro-related works here. The district administration has initiated steps to acquire land for the widening of Banerjee Road and MG Road. The Kerala Merchants’ Union will organise a meeting here on Saturday, demanding the rehabilitation of the merchants who will be evicted for the widening of roads in connection with the Metro Rail.A total of 108 merchants will be fully and partially evicted for the Metro rail-related projects. The meeting will be inaugurated by Hibi Eden MLA. |
