RailEnquiry Admin | Difference in CID and NIA reports over cause of train accident on 14 February, 2017 - 04:25 PM | |
Three investigative agencies were involved in investigation of Jagdalpur – Bhubaneswar Hirakhand Express - CID Andhra Pradesh, NIA (National investigative Agency) and Commissioner of railway safety. On January 21, Hirakhand Express got derailed near Kuneru station leaving 40 passengers dead while several others got injured. However a final conclusion is yet to be made by agencies but there appears to be a major difference in opinion of CID and NIA. On one hand NIA has booked a case against Maoists under Section 150 of the Railways Act and Sections 16 and 18 of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act while on the other hand CID has almost ruled out any sabotage angle. According to CID, rail fracture was the main cause of derailment as it has not found any traces of explosive material or any other type of cutting equipment. It is now for the NIA and the CRS to come to a conclusion; however the sabotage angle is being favoured to shield higher railway officials. |
