Delhi Metro Railway Chief Mangu Singh on Saturday inspected the 22-km-long Mukundpur-Moti Bagh corridor that connects Inner Ring Road with the metro network. The corridor, part of the 56-km Mukundpur-Gokulpuri corridor of the Delhi Metro Phase III project, passes through a densely congested area with high traffic volume. During his inspection, Mr. Singh instructed the DMRC engineers to ensure quality of work and safety, apart from being able to meet the deadline for completion of the project.

The DMRC chief also instructed his team to ensure that special safety measures are adopted during construction to limit inconvenience to the minimal.

During the inspection, Mr. Singh visited Azadpur, Zakhira casting yard, Naraina, Dhaula Kuan and Moti Bagh.

“Mr. Singh instructed the chief project managers to maintain strict barricading at the construction sites and see that movement of the traffic is not inconvenienced at all. DMRC has ensured that the Dhaula Kuan - Delhi Cantonment main road will continue to serve as a four lane carriageway and there is no hindrance to public as regards the width of the road. Existing width of the road will be maintained by Delhi Metro throughout this stretch,” said a spokesperson.

After the inspection, Mr. Singh said that raising the height of the 220 kV power overhead line, which is the only source of feeding power to the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) grid sub-station at Punjabi Bagh, is one of the challenging tasks on this line. DMRC is in discussion with the concerned authorities of BBMB for raising the height of the power line so that the Metro construction is not hampered.

Some of the other challenges which the DMRC will to come across on this stretch include the construction of Dhaula Kuan Metro Station which will be built at a height of 23 metres above the ground coming over the existing Delhi Metro Airport Express Link, construction of underground stations at Azadpur, Shalimar Bagh, Netaji Subhash Place, Naraina Vihar and others.

The corridor is scheduled to be commissioned in 2016.
