Interventions in rail projects termed unilateral

Certain Congress leaders in the district are trying to gain cheap popularity by making ‘unilateral’ interventions in Railway projects in the district, CPI(M) district Secretary K. P. Satheesh Chandran has said. (Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee member M.C. Jose had claimed that he, along with an MP, could convince Union Railway Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal of the need for the survey on the Kaniyoor line from Kanhangad instead of from Kottikulam as proposed in the Railway Budget). The move was aimed at gaining political mileage. It was nothing but ‘political bankruptcy,’ Mr. Satheesh Chandran said in the statement. It was an attempt to undermine the efforts of K. Karunakaran, MP, in realising the project. Everybody in the district knew of the efforts put in by Mr. Karunkaran, he said.The initiative of the Congress leader came at a time when Kerala had been given a raw deal in the Railway Budget. People would easily identify such tactics, he said.“My intention was aimed at clearing the air of suspense over the project after the latest Railway Budget. It has nothing to do with belittling the efforts of Mr. Karunakaran,” Mr. Jose told The Hindu.
