Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials have been directed to close down six tea shops around the City Railway Station and levy a fine on the shopkeepers for littering. During an inspection of the area, Mayor D. Venkatesh Murthy was fuming after finding the area littered with plastic cups and paper bags.He said that though the BBMP has been trying to create awareness about the ban on plastic, citizens also had the responsibility to not litter, and reduce dependence on plastic.According to a press release, the Mayor later inspected Govindarajanagar and Rajajinagar Assembly constituencies.He inspected the dilapidated BBMP market at Rajajinagar 5th Block, 10th Main Road. He directed the officials to prepare a detailed project report for the repair and construction of a complex there.After inspecting the renovation work of the community hall at Rajajinagar 6th Block, he directed the officials concerned to complete the work within two months. The renovation has been taken up at a cost of Rs. 87 lakh.Dr. Rajkumar Ward councillor Gangabyraiah pointed out the need to take up repairs of the walking track constructed over a drain at Ambedkar Stadium in Govindarajanagar Assembly constituency.He said that part of the track had collapsed and needed urgent repairs. Mr. Murthy assured him of directing the officials to take up the repair work as soon as possible.
