Trivandrum: Child Line, the organisation functioning to protect children from mishaps and abuse and also help in rehabilitating the children in need, held a unique exhibition on the second platform of Thampanoor Railway Station, at the cabin of Woman and Child Help Centre, on the occasion of Children’s Day from 10 am till 5 pm. The exhibition, which was inaugurated by C Mony, Station Manager of Southern Railway, Trivandrum had on display the news clippings of Child Line’s endeavours, the statistics of its functions and various awareness articles. There was also a programme ‘Child Line Se Dosti’, which saw several children from Don Bosco Nivas tying bands on each other’s hands. The occasion also marked the third anniversary of the Woman and Child Help Centre at the railway station. Resmy Mampilly, Centre Coordinator for Child Line, said, “The number of street children has become considerably reduced over the years and so has under age children doing labour. However, the number of children subjected to sexual and emotional abuse in their own homes is increasing at an alarming rate.” “The number of calls that Child Line getson1098 is enormous and the response to our awareness programmes is also tremendous. Many children were not even aware that they were being done an injustice until then. The officials in the higher echelons working for child welfare are already in the process of pushing for stringent guidelines in Kerala Children’s Act, to help protect children from offenders,” she added. Milan Rigola, Circle Inspector of Railway Protection Force, Rajni Nair, SI of RPF and other RPF personnel were also present at the function. |
