MUMBAI: In a last-ditch effort to run the Matheran toy train during monsoon before the season ends, Central Railway (CR) has submitted a fresh application before the commissioner of railway safety (CRS) seeking its approval."We submitted the application on Thursday for a nod to allow toy train services during monsoon," said a CR official, adding that all arrangements are in place to run the service at a short notice. "If we get the permission within a week, we can run the services on the 3km-stretch between Aman lodge and Matheran."A dozen controllability trails were carried out to establish the feasibility of running the train during monsoon. Trials were conducted to establish optimum combination of number of coaches, locomotive and speed of the train.Toy train services are suspended from June to October due to monsoon. However, CR initiated efforts to run these services during monsoon as it would help Matheran's economy.
