Public transport in the city and the district, which revolves around the services of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), was affected for the second consecutive day on Friday owing to the workers’ strike.Though private service providers were permitted to use government bus stations to pick up and drop passengers, only a few utilised the service.Though the strike should have come as a bonanza for these people, they had to content with normal earnings as people obviously changed their travel plans in view of the strike.KSRTC operates 3,557 trips in Mysore urban areas with its fleet of 425 buses which remained off the road on Friday. Within city limits, autorickshaws were charging double the normal rate and meter reading was done away with. While city services were completely paralysed, suburban services too suffered a similar fate on high-density routes such as Mysore–Nanjangud, Mysore–Hunsur, and Mysore–T. Narsipur. Inter-city and inter-State services too were hit though private operators pitched in for the Mysore-Bangalore route. |
