A 24-year-old man from Nepal on Monday caused tension at Chennai Central Railway Station when he climbed on top of the clock tower of the building. Deepak alias Roopan sneaked in and climbed the tower using the stairs after informing the guard that he was going to catch pigeons.“He went up at around 2 pm and was brought down at 6.45 pm in the presence of several curious onlookers by fire and rescue service personnel, who used a skylift,” the police said. All that the man wanted was biriyani. “We gave him biriyani. He ate it and climbed up the lightning arrester,” said railway police inspector Sekhar, who was on his toes since the man climbed up the tower. After the initial interactions with the man, who acted as if he was mentally unstable, the police said he was a native of Nepal but had been staying in Chennai for 10 years now.The man said he was married to one Seetha but was unable to recall his place of stay correctly. The doctors at the Rajiv Gandhi General Hospital examined him and said he was healthy. The police plan to take him to the Institute of Mental Health on Tuesday morning. |
