The Bidar Chamber of Commerce and Industry has called for a ‘Bidar bandh’ on August 24 in protest against the delay in starting the Bidar-Secunderabad intercity train and to seek change in timings of the Nanded-Bangalore Express train.“We are tired of petitioning the government and the Railways. This is the last resort for us,” BCCI president B.G. Shetkar said in a release.“The intercity train was announced in the Railway Budget this year. Hundreds of people commute between Bidar and Secunderabad every day for trade and business and for seeking treatment in hospitals in the twin cities. The cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad have a strong connection to Bidar and an express train between Bidar and Secunderabad will benefit the district,” he said.“Second, the Nanded Express train takes 18 hours to reach Bangalore from Bidar. If the timings are changed to make it an overnight train to Bangalore, governance and business in this backward district will improve. This demand has been pending for the last 20 years,” Mr. Shetkar added. He said various trade bodies and non-governmental organisations had volunteered to participate in the bandh. |
