Although Banaswadi station is merely 9 kms away from Bengaluru city junction, the difference between the stations cannot be measured on any scale. Banaswadi is more of a cluster station for railway but on a station with an average daily foot fall of 700 demands at least basic amenities. Interestingly, Union railway minister Mallikarjun M Kharge visited this station to flag off two new express trains: Yeshwantpur - Kamakhya – Yeshwantpur and Bangalore City – Nagercoil - Bangalore City but he was oblivious to the absence of even basic amenities. There are two platforms out of which one has no shelter at all and the other platform does have shelter but only a small one. Toilets are always locked, no drinking water no security measures what so ever and even announcement speakers are faulty. Around 40 trains pass through this station on a daily basis yet the condition is more of a havoc for passengers. Anil Kumar Agarwal, divisional railway manager, South Western Railway, Bangalore, said the toilets here have been repaired many times, but the public have rendered it useless, so it's locked. Railway also tried a tender for pay-and-use toilet but no one came up. He also said that station has water crisis and unless a reservoir tank is not built the condition will remain same. |
