While brutal attacks on women continued in India and even khap leaders meet to discuss issues like female foeticide, the new born girls are abandoned by parents and left to die.In Rajasthan two girls were found dumped since Friday in the open in Jaipur and Jodhpur, including one by a railway track, media reports said. While the baby abandoned in Jaipur died on Friday after she was found near the tracks, another found in a garbage dump in Jodhpur-Pali region survived. The girl was died was found after the Agra-Ajmer train left the station in Jaipur.Railway police rushed her to hospital but she died. The baby found in garbage was admitted to Pali's Bangar hospital and doctors said she is doing better now.Rajasthan is a state with the worst track record in preventing female foeticide.About 200 khaps (social administration systems in north India) are meeting in Bibipur village Saturday in Jind district of Haryana to discuss the menace of female foeticide among others. While abandonment of girl child is frequent, many even fail to see the light of this world.According to the 2011 Census and other national statistics 700,000 girl children are missing at birth due to termination of pregnancy once a foetus’ sex is confirmed. While all these menace continued unabated, recently hue and cry in media and programmes like Aamir Khan's Satyamev Jayate have brought the issues under focus. |
