On the Suburban network Automatic Door Closure System is back on railway’s agenda. The new system will be tested again which will help prevent death by falling from running trains.

Although fatalities rate has dropped across Western Railway, Central Railway and Harbour line but through automatic door closure system railway want to reduce this number even further.

At the number of deaths on the suburban system Public Accounts Committee expressed shock. PAC says Railway ministry must take urgent necessary action to redesign coaches on suburban trains on the lines of coaches with automatic doors similar to Metro trains.

By the end of May Railway will experiment in one coach of a 12-car rake. The cost of the technology and installation is estimated to be Rs 80 lakh.
