As it prepares for the trial run of the service, scheduled for the end of the year, Chennai Metro Rail is hastening the completion of stations.After Koyambedu and CMBT stations, the facility in Arumbakkam will be reach structural completion by the end of the month.Koyambedu and CMBT Metro stations reached the stage in December 2012.The Arumbakkam Metro Rail station will have ground, concourse and platform levels.As of now, the ground and the concourse levels have been completed, said officials of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL).“We are in the course of constructing the platform level for the station; simultaneously, we are also focussing on the grid erection process in the station,” said an official of CMRL.In total, 13 elevated stations dot the city on a 21 km stretch.Consolidated Constructed Consortium (CCCL) has been carrying out the construction of Arumbakkam station in addition to Koyambedu, CMBT, Vadapalani and Ashok Nagar at a cost of Rs. 139.54 crore.The station will have four entry and exit points, four lifts and eight escalators; there will also be a ramp to facilitate the movement of differently-abled people from the ground level to the concourse level.“We are also concentrating on laying the track till St. Thomas Mount. Track laying for 7 km of the 11 km stretch has been completed,” he added.Chennai Metro Rail plans to carry out the trial run on the 11 km stretch by December 2013 and expects to go operational by mid-2014.
