Every level crossing under the Alappuzha Lok Sabha Constituency will be manned within the next six months, said Rajesh Agarwal, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Thiruvananthapuram. There are about 18 unmanned railway level crossings in this stretch.Mr. Agarwal was speaking at a function to inaugurate the new Railway ticket reservation counter opened at the office of the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) near the KSRTC bus stand here on Monday. He said the Railways would introduce inter-locking facilities in 18 manned level crossings in Alappuzha this year.Fifty level crossings will be switched to interlocking facility by next year. The inter-locking facilities at manned level crossings are to ensure that the trains get the green signal only if the level crossings are closed.Inaugurating the counter, Union Minister of State for Power K.C. Venugopal said that it would have facilities for reserving all tickets, including tatkal reservations. The counter was set up as part of a special project that allows MPs to set up an additional railway ticket counter in their constituency.
