In a shocking revelation Railway said that from January 2016 to December 2016 there were at least 45 such cases where railways found sabotage with railway tracks. Railway is working round the clock to avoid any disaster due to damaged tracks. According to Member Traffic in the Railway board, “There were three cases of track tempering, 18 cases of extremist activities, seven cases of track explosion and 13 cases of recovery of improvised explosive devices along the tracks. Jamshed also cited some examples where railway employees tracked down attempted sabotage on time in Mumbai and Hajipur division. Railway has also asked its every supervisor to monitor the tracks properly. Jamshed also referred the recent Jagdalpur – Bhubaneswar Express derailment occurred in naxal zone and cited that two similar incidents were reported in the same area in August last year. He also told that disruptions caused on the railway tracks have led to a loss of over seven million tonnes of freight orders worth Rs 700 crore. Similarly punctuality of 3,500 mail and express trains were affected resulting in the revenue loss of Rs 100 crore. |
