The long awaited Kanchanjunga Express connecting Kolkata and Agartala was finally flagged of on 8 October, Saturday. The 21 coach passenger train will complete its 1556kms long journey from Tripura to Sealdah covering 38 important stations like Guwahati, Silchar, New Bongaigaon, New Coochbehar, New Jalpaiguri, Malda town, Bolpur Shantiniketan and New Alipurduar. From Agartala, the train will depart on Saturday and Tuesday every week while from Sealdah on Thursday and Sunday. It will cover the given distance in 38 hours. There was not much fanfare or showy inauguration by railways however there was enough crowd during the final flag off. Recently on July 31 this year another direct passenger train was flagged of by Suresh Prabhu that runs between Anand Vihar station of Delhi and Tripura. “Tripura Sundari Express” covers 2480 kms of distance in 55 hours. Kanchanjunga Express will be a huge relief to people of Tripura, western Manipur, southern Assam and Mizoram. |
