MYSORE: The train passengers will have an additional feature to buy tickets.The Mysore division of the South Western Railway is installing automatic ticket vending machines (ATVMs ) at five places in the city railway station to help the commuters purchase the tickets easily. The ATVMs will be installed at the existing Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) kiosks installed by nationalized banks at the station. In the first phase, unreserved tickets can be purchased using the system while it is planned to issue reserved tickets in the next phase.During a meeting the senior officials of the South Western Railway had with the MPs from Mysore and Chamarajnagar on Tuesday, the officials informed the elected representatives that the ATVMs will be operational within a fortnight. A separate unit will be installed at the ATM counters which will be integrated with the railways computer network to dispense tickets. When the space for the ATM counters were allotted, it was mandated that they should have ATVMs. They are installing it now, sources told The Times of India. "The system will be integrated to issue unreserved ticket initially," they stated.Mysore MP Adagooru H Vishwanath submitted demands to senior railway executives led by South Western Railway GM A K Mittal asking them to extend facilities to the commuters. He sought additional booking counters for the traveling public when the officials explained the opening of the ATVMs.Though 14 MPs in the Mysore division were invited to the meeting, only two attended. The interactive meeting is held following a direction from the railway ministry to hold at least two meetings with the local MPs.The officials informed the meeting that that three Janasadharan ticket booking Sewaks is being sanctioned for the city, which are authorized to dispense tickets. They will be located at Ramaswamy circle, Shivarampet and in the vicinity of the city railway station.The meeting discussed the track doubling work between Bangalore and Mysore and the MPs asked the officials to expedite the works. The Chamarajanagar MP R Dhruvanarayan asked for introducing of additional long distance trains from Chamarajanagar. |
