CHANDIGARH: As Union railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal got off the train at the Chandigarh station on Saturday morning, many hopes were pinned on him announcing a festival package for the City Beautiful. And the minister, who is the local MP, did not disappoint. A day after TOI highlighted the glaring problems at the railway station, Bansal directed officials of Ambala railway division to maintain the place and construct more parking lots.

Bansal met the officials at the railway station as he arrived from Delhi and asked them to increase the parking capacity and beautify the place. He also ordered to start work on installing accelerator connecting platforms immediately. The minister told TOI that the upkeep of the station, its beautification and provision of more parking were prominent concerns. Ambala's divisional railway manager P K Sangi said, "We have identified land at the left and right sides of the building for constructing parking lots. Beautification will be taken up simultaneously."

The DRM inspected the station along with other railway officials after Bansala's departure and directed the officers concerned to improve the sanitation and other facilities.
