AC three tier class has become the most profitable category for Indian Railways and the success of recently launched Humsafar Express comprised of AC three tier class only, has forced Indian Railways to incorporate more AC three tier coaches into its trains. Besides this Railway is gearing up to launch more Humsafar Express across the country. Member of Railway Board, Mohammed Jamshed said – “We will be launching more Humsafar Express trains and have more trains with AC tier 3 coaches as this category is profitable for us. The Guwahati-Bengaluru Humsafar Express is running at 70%-plus occupancy and so we plan to make it a daily service.” The point worth noting is that railway practise surge pricing in Humsafar Express despite its base ticket prices were kept 20% high. Railway has ordered 1000 new AC three tier coaches for the current financial year against the 500 planned earlier. | ||
