HYDERABAD: The Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested a criminal, who has been committing thefts on trains for the past two years, and recovered Rs 18lakh worth stolen gold from his possession.Acting on a tip-off, the GRP police raided the residence of Dasari Raghu, 35, of Ramnagar on Sunday and found some stolen gold articles in his possession. During interrogation, Raghu confessed that he has been lifting suitcases and stealing gold from handbags of women in crowded trains over the past two years. "He confessed to have committed thefts on several trains, including Delta Passenger, Simhapuri Express, Narsapur Express and Machilipatnam Express," GRP, Secunderabad, SP M Kanta Rao said. To avoid getting caught, Raghu used to mortgage most of his stolen booty with gold finance companies and enjoy the money taken from there, the SP added. Based on Raghu's confession, police recovered 67 tolas of gold worth Rs 18 lakh from various gold mortgaging institutions. |
