New Delhi : Railway Minister Mukul Roy Thursday said he would take his Trinamool party chief Mamata Banerjee's Vision 2020 forward and deepen the agenda of inclusive growth."We will take the Vision 2020 forward," Roy said while replying to a debate on the demand for grants of the ministry 2012-13, which were passed by the Lok Sabha Thursday.Roy replaced as railway minister his party's Dinesh Trivedi, who had to resign after his move to hike fares angered Mamata Banerjee.Roy listed safety of the network, reduction in number of accidents and elimination of unmanned level crossings in a time-bound manner as priority areas. He also mentioned pursuing the public private partnership model for developmental projects. |

NEW DELHI: For the convenience of passengers and to clear extra rush during summer, the railways have decided to run 35 pairs of special trains with a total of 1694 trips on the Northern Railway zone.This is besides the introduction of 20 new trains since July last year running a total of 752 trips - 2446 trips in all during the period. To cater to the increasing volume, the railways have also planned to augment the passenger carrying capacity by 94 coaches on permanent/temporary basis. A total of 96 extra coaches have been attached for the season for enhanced passenger volume. |

More than 30,000 persons visited Red Ribbon Express on the first day of its halt at Sivaganga on Monday.It was given a rousing reception by the people of all walks of life when it arrived from Ramanathapuram to Sivaganga for disseminating information and clearing misconception on HIV/AIDS.Collector V. Rajaraman inaugurated the exhibition at a ceremony held at the railway station, where it will be halted for two days so as to enable the people to visit the express, which has everything to create an awareness among the people, particularly targeted groups on HIV/AIDS.Accompanied by elected representatives and officials, he visited all eight bogies of the express. First four compartments have been used for exhibition.A large number of people, including school and college students, visited the Red Ribbon Express.They waited in queues to get into the train. There were explained by the doctors and volunteers. There were facilities to undergo general check up of patients at the train. Blood donation was also organised on the occasion.Mr. Rajaraman said more than 30,000 visitors had visited the express on the first day on Monday.The number would increase on Tuesday. Thirty-eight unit of blood was also collected from interested donors. |
