मुंबई - मध्य रेल्वेवर मुलुंड आणि नाहूर स्थानकांदरम्यान काल (ता. 19) रुळाशेजारच्या खांबावर आदळून लोकलमधील तीन प्रवासी मृत्युमुखी पडले आणि 25 जण जखमी झाले. या अपघाताला जबाबदार असलेले रेल्वे अधिकारी आणि कर्मचाऱ्यांचा शोध "जीआरपी'ने (गव्हर्नमेंट रेल्वे पोलिस) सुरू केला आहे. तेथील सिग्नल यंत्रणेच्या दुरुस्तीची आणि देखभालीची जबाबदारी असलेल्या कर्मचाऱ्यांची नावे पोलिसांनी मध्य रेल्वेच्या विभागीय रेल्वे व्यवस्थापकांकडे मागितली आहेत. |

Thousands of Mumbai local train passengers have been facing tough time on Monday as the trains were late by around 30 minutes due to some technical snag.The Mumbai local lrains are running behind the schedule by 30 minutes between Virar to Churchgate, accoring to the sources.However, officials said that the services will be returned to normalcy soon.Earlier, local train services were sevrely disrupted on Central route following a fire in the Kurla and Vidyavihar signalling cabins.Mumbai's local trains are known as the city's life line. Millions of commuters travel daily on these Electric Multiple Units (EMU's). In view of the never-ending migration into the city and the intense pressure on the city's infrastructure by it's ever-expanding population, the local train system is in desperate need to be upgraded. |

Kochi : As part of its initiative to engage stakeholders in the design and development of the Kochi Metro Rail Project, a meeting was held by Kochi Metro Rail Limited with various local civil society organisations. The meeting, among other things, also discussed necessity of rebuilding South Railway Overbridge and a few other bridges and roads, optimal usage of water transport options and the need of time-bound and stretch-wise completion of the project. Representatives of public forums, who participated in the meeting here yesterday, expressed happiness about KMRLs ingenuity to ensure stakeholder participation and assured their whole-hearted support for the project. They also conveyed their appreciation to KMRL for the timely completion of the preparatory works and the superior quality it has ensured for the roads that are reconstructed. The suggestion to rebuild the South ROB was also put forth by the participants of the meeting as once the Metro Rail lines are completed in this area, South ROB can never be reconstructed. KMRL Managing Director Tom Jose expressed his willingess to take up the issue with the bodies concerned. It was decided to convene a meeting with civil society representatives once in every two months to discuss the project's development and seek ways to minimize the problems and difficulties people might come across during its implementation, an official release said today. |

New Delhi : Intensifying the drive against touts and unauthorised travel agencies, Norther Railway has apprehended 75 persons for their alleged involvement in illegal sale of train tickets. "We have carried out special drive to prevent illegal sale of tickets at reservation and booking offices between April 2 and 20 and have apprehended 75 touts during the period," said a senior Northern Railway official. Apprehended touts are being prosecuted under Section 144 of Railway Act. Railways' vigilance team along with RPF have conducted the special drive to prevent touting activities during the summer rush. In the raid, two unauthorised travel agencies were apprehended and 12 tickets were recovered from them. "The persons present in the agencies were handed over to RPF for further prosecution under Section 143 of Railway Act," he said. Besides, 149 cases of travelling on transferred tickets were also detected and a sum of Rs 90,172 was realized from them during the checks. The drive will continue against the touting activities and the passengers travelling on the tickets purchased in the name of other passengers, said the official. |
