KOCHI: In an attempt to give a traditional touch to the Ernakulam Junction Station, Thiruvananthapuram Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Rajesh Agarwal announced that the station will be renovated in the traditional Koothambalam style, on Sunday. He, along with Khul Bhushan Railway Board Member ( Electrical, Signalling and Telecom), is on a visit to the Ernakulam station. “The station will be turned into a world class facility wearing a traditional look,” said the DRM. The plan is to demolish the old buildings at the station. “Many changes will be made at the entrance to incorporate a feel of Kerala culture for the passengers. The station will have electrical boards displaying information on the arrival and departure of trains. Also, the waiting rooms will be made spacious,” the DRM said. While, there were discussions on the renovations plans of the Ernakulam station, the officials also discussed the financial issues being faced by the Thiruvanathapuram division. “Many norms have to be finalised before anything can be done. The plan will be put into effect after the Union government sanctions it. Though funds are a big problem, we are working our way towards the approval,” said Rajesh Agarwal, DRM, Thiruvananthapuram Divison. Speaking on the lack of ticket counter clerks at the Ernakulam Junction Station, the DRM said that they have already appointed additional ticket-counting staff at the station. “We will take immediate action if the staff are not reporting for duty,” he added. |
